Hi I have questions about putting new rings in a 4.7 2002 Dodge Dakota it's reading low compression on 7 cylinders my question is (did this engine need to be honed?) The cylinders were smooth and in good shape the reason for the new rings is because the old owner never did oil changes regularly the oil rings on cylinder 6 and 7 we're wore out.

There's a little more damage than oil rings if your compression is low on 7 of 8 cylinders. Are you sure that the cylinders are smooth? I would stick a bore mic in the bores and check for taper. Sounds like a .030 over-bore along with new pistons and rings are in your future. If the previous owner(s) didn't maintain the truck properly, I would give some serious thought to a new crate engine...with a few upgrades. That, or a 6.4 hemi swap could be interesting.
