Looking to put a tuner on my '07 Ram 1500 4.7L Flex V8. It has a 2.5" leveling kit on the front and recently upgraded the tires from stock to 33's. The rest of the truck is stock and since I don't know much about the mechanics it will probably stay stock with the exception of a dual exhaust I might put in. Gas mileage wasn't great from the time I got the truck but I knew what I was getting myself into with a 4x4 V8. I'm no mechanic by any means but I can't help but think the shifting with my transmission isn't optimal so I thought maybe a tuner could help with that and maybe provide better gas mileage.

So first of all am I going in the right direction with this?

Second of all I've been researching tuners for my ram model and it seems that the two most popular are the Superchips and the Diablo Sport. Can anyone shed any light on which would be better for my ram?

I'm a big fan of Diablo, but I run aftermarket cam etc in my hemi. I think the Superchip may do everything you need. However (hemifever) has my Ram shifting nice and firm and at 6,200 rpms. You might look at the Sonnax line booster, it's a good value.

You can go wrong with either. Diablosport is probably the most popular but you wouldn't be wrong if you went with Superchips. Let us know if you are interested in your forum member discount on any tuner!

I'm looking to go with either the Superchips Flashpaq or Cortex. Can you tell me if there is any significant difference besides the 2 year powertrain warranty that comes with the cortex? And can you give me a quote on each of these tuners?

Sent an email to Superchips asking them for the differences between the flashpaq, cortex, and vivid linq. This is what I received and found pretty helpful for the most part:

"Josh,

In all of those tuners the tuning for the vehicle is the same. They will all give the same amount of HP and Torque. The difference is the Flashpaq is our newest unit, it tunes everything we’ve done for dodge from 99-12, and the 13 Ram 1500 5.7 so far. It will be updateable into the future with each new model year we have tuning for. The cortex will not. The linq is just preference over the flashpaq whether you want that or not. If you want gauges on your phone then the Linq will provide that. However if your just looking to tune the vehicle, then I would recommend the Flashpaq, it is easier to use and just an overall easier user experience. The Flashpaq you would look at getting is the 3842."

Sounds about right, I have the Flashpaq 3840 and I am completely happy with it. Especially after I put 315/70/17 on my truck. I couldn't imagine driving it at the stock setting with those tires. Also I personally recommend Bully's Performance thats where I got mine from and they got to California in 3 days with free shipping. Not sure if they are still offering free shipping, also everywhere I looked the tuner was $350+ and plus shipping. I bought an open box from them for $299. Looks like were almost running the same truck Moldy. What setting has worked best for you? Just got mine in and have read so many different reviews. Some said tow tune was the best, others said 91 octane, and others said the 91 didn't make up for the price difference and that they used the 87. Haven't heard hardly any good things about the mileage xs tune.

When I was driving around town without lift and tires, I like the mileage XS, but I could feel some power loss. When I started going to school 50 miles north the mileage XS sucked because it felt like I had no power on the highway. I tried the 91 tune next and it was good but at 0.30 more per gallon I hated it. :sad:
Currently I am running 87 tune and I like it a lot. I can't tell a big difference in the 91 and 87 tune. Of course I only ran the 91 tune for 2 weeks. With the 91 tune I was getting 18 mpg highway and 15 in town. WIth the 87 tune I was getting 19 highway and 15 in town. Mileage XS I got 17 in town and 15 highway. :4-dontknow: These are all pre lift and tires. Now I get 12 in town and 15 to 16 highway. :doh: But I wouldn't trade the lift or tires for anything.

All in all the best thing I like is the shifting difference. Mine doesn't shift until 2500 RPMs now and I was able to change my tire size to correct the speedometer.
