Just had a quick question trying to see if maybe I'm just completely inept or there's something wrong with my truck of if there's a built in limiter keeping me from doing it but for the life of me 2 or 4wheel drive I can not get my back end to break loose and do dounuts in the mud it's more like squares for me the back end breaks loose mud starts flying then no power then back end brakes loose again then no power this is all withought moviving the gas pedal or even tried just mashing it to the floor and holding it there same thing! I have a 2005 Hemi 4x4 I know I've got the power it's just not letting me use it it seems like. Any advice????

I'm not sure about a 2005 but the newer trucks have electronic traction control, and what you describe sounds like it to a tee. It's designed to keep you from losing control on the highway if one or more wheels begin to slip by transferring power from the spinning wheel and/or applying the brakes. Is there a button on your dashboard to turn it off?

If you have it, I know in my truck I can disable it in 4WD by switching into 4 wheel then holding the ETC button down for about 10 seconds.
Hey upstarter just open then range of suggestion.would the gear size matter what gears are you running texashemi? and also upstarter what if the tranny is slipping?
Yeah, sounds like traction control. My 2010 does it too, even with the button pushed on the dash, it will spin like crazy but as soon as the truck goes sideways it starts to brake and cuts the fuel. According to the owners manual the only way to completely disable the entire system is in low range... or so it seems to me...
Yeah, sounds like traction control to me. My 2010 does the same thing too. When I push the button on the dash all it does is let the truck spin, if it goes sideways the brakes are applied and the fuel is cut. According to my owners manual it seems as though the only way to shut it all off is in low range.
Yeah that's exactly what it feels like, but theres no switch anywhere to turn it off in my truck I had read somewhere that between the rear end and the rev limiter they put on the hemis it's near impossible but no one ever said what u did to fix it! Lol
I drive a 2011 f250 for work and it does the same thing but you have the optional button on the dash to turn it off or as y'all have said u can only minimize the effect it wi still kill the power it it notice exsessive wheel spin on the f250. Shurley there is a way to disconnect or timporarilly disable really makes for a bummer time out in the pits when all u can do it go slow and steady! Lol
things that i found

ESP push and hold will let it slip depending on the steering input but as soon as the wheels spin more than 65km/h (40mph) it will start do it's thing.

For 4X4 owners only, go to post #20
