i have an "01 dodge ram 1500 4X4 with aprox. 145k miles on it, second gear went out not too long ago and i was told that it could be either the solenoid pack or the second gear band, i can fix both but i dont want to go blowing money i dont need to. any tips?

I thought that my '01 was having low end power loss issues but after thinking about what was happening, I determined that it was a transmission issue. It would barely take off and when coming to a stop it would "roll" into neutral with a "thump". I realized that it was taking off in 3rd gear then not down shifting. It turned out to be the governor sensor and selenoid. Good as new ever since. hope this helps if you haven't solved your problem already. TS
