Leaving the office today...very excited about going home and ordering the mufflex...
In comes a call from a client (very important call) so I accept it and begin speaking.
Never owning a truck before, and always a car, I made a hard right out of the parking spot and forgot there was a cement pillar there and

SCRAPE!!!!!

Hung up on my customer, got out and swore like I have never sworn before.
This truck is less than 3 weeks old.

Got back in, was calm in 10 minutes. Quite surprised actually as I typically would be pissed longer, but realized worst things could have happened.

Long story short. It is now at the shop prepared to get fixed. Should have it back by Saturday.

Guys, pls be gentle and don't beat a horse when its already down

Question:
The body shop will only charge me $100 to paint all the calipers and will be using Dupli Color caliper paint.
What color would look good on black?
Im planning on going with red!
It seems like the only color that really goes with black.
Any other thoughts or recommendations?

Here are the pictures...
Again pls be kind to a NOOB 2012 Truck owner. All I can say, this will NEVER happen again.

That's tough luck dude but I can understand how that can happen. I have been taking wide right turns ever since I bought my Ram. I'm getting a little better but still using up part of the next lane. You just can't see the curb (or post in your case).

Please post a full side shot if you get the calipers painted red. Thx.
OUCH, that looks like it hurt

I have had 2 small moving incidents, i was in reverse both times
after the first time, there was this building corner, i found out that my back up sensors were bad
I then installed a backup camera
the 2nd time there was a post, caught the rear bumper right on the corner, no sensors out that far & i never saw it in my cameras viewer
Why not paint your calipers black like the rest of the truck? Then you won't see the brake dust so much either.

I've been taking as wide as turns as possible till this incident!
I know that post was there but because of that client call my mind went in total focus to that call and I guess I thought I was in my car.

I will certainly take sides shots once painted Red or another color.
Between Red and Black but more likely Deep 'Ferrari' Red

Ok! So I am not the only one!
But mine is BAD! It did hurt. Now its going to hurt my mods for a few weeks or so.

Was considering black as well. But have yet to see any black rams with it.
All I seem to find is red and it looks nice!
Plus something with a bit of contrast.

Ill keep all posted and open another thread once done!
Ill have pics up this Saturday once my truck returns all nice and purty again.
I have the same color Truck and would probably go myself with Red. As for the little Ding, ouch!!!! I feel for ya, hope you get her back soon.
Wow am I ever having a serious case of deja-vu. I did pretty much the same thing to my truck when it was 3 weeks old. I was going down a very narrow back alley-way behind a building and the alley made a 90 turn at the corner of the building. There was snow and ice on the ground and my tires slipped and fell into a "ice groove" and swung my back quarter panel into the corner of the building. Exactly like yours. Our truck are even the same color. Scary! So dont feel bad, you're not alone! lol

I am going with Red as I just saw a few pictures of fellow Ram members with black Rams and red calipers and it looks amazing!
Saturday will be the day I see her again :smile up:

Rayne, Thanks!
Im hearing a few stories and yours especially and I am feeling a lot better.
A truck is SO MUCH different than a car but you don't realize it till something like this.
Man, it sucks and Im sure it hasn't happened to you again!?
I know I will try my hardest to not let it happen again.
Holy Crap man, what were you doing....Nah, I'm just messin' with ya man! I am pretty sure that most everyone has done something they would like to kick themselves for; I know I have!! It always makes it worse when you can't blame anyone but yourself. I had a lincoln some years ago...second day I had it, I opened my door too wide and hit this post that was next to it...MADE ME SICK! Now I park a thousand miles away from anything or anyone, haha. As a side note: Why is it that no matter how far you park away from other people (especially at walmart), you will come back out to see that there is some dipsh#! that parks right next to you (usually someone that has a bunch of scrapes along their side and bungee cords holding down there trunk)???
BTW, I like the red calipers...unless you were blacking out your truck.

I almost jumped into my screen to say WTF!
Joking...
My wife and I always guess... Is there someone parking beside our car?
She parks a distance away too!
You're absolutely right!
It's always a car that you say wtf to. LOL!
Still a little frustrated!
Haven't worked out that hard in a few weeks!

:4-dontknow:
I know how it feels. First time on the hi-way with my wifes new jeep patriot and we hit a deer. Shortly after having that fixed both the jeep and the truck went through a hail storm. In the end its just a vehicle and things could always be worse but that sick feeling right when it happens is hard to shake.
I painted my calipers red on my black truck and I absolutely love em. Gives a great contrast to the black and just a splash of color. I'm posting from my phone right now so I can't upload any pics. I'll try and get some on tomorrow. Here's a link to some pics I posted a while ago. You can see the calipers in one shot. http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=108551

I'll be partially blacking it out but leaving a few chrome pieces.
I red is the way I'll be going.

Could not agree with you more and thanks for checking in and making me feel better
I feel your pain man! For years I owned decent trucks and I never put a dent on any of them. This Ram is my first new truck and it had a little over 2000 miles on the odometer when I bent up the front end on it. I had to replace the grill, front passenger fender, head light and bumper. Like you I answered my phone while driving, I was on a back road with not much of a shoulder and when I pulled over to talk I drove into a very deep hole just as I came to a stop and took out the front end....It's a sad time bro, good luck with the repairs!

Another vote for red calipers!

This exactly how I feel and it is going to be red.
If you can post pics that would be appreciated.

I guess we have all at some point encountered this. It just sucks when there is NO ONE to blame. I hate blaming myself.

There's another red vote and my choice is confirmed to be red.
Sorry you bruised your baby...I would be sick too...

But, I need to address the elephant in the room....don't take this the wrong way...not trying to be a jerk....but its a real sensitive subject for me......

So you were on the phone as you were maneauvering thru and leaving a parking lot and merging with traffic, while driving a vehicle that was way bigger than you are used to?

The customer was too important to NOT answer, but you hung up on him when you scraped the pillar?

Do you realize how that sounds?

Accidents do happen, and it sucks when we are the cause of our own damage.

Glad it wasn't an oncoming car or me sitting on my motorcycle next to you that you scraped. Your inattentiveness could have caused a waaay bigger problem than some scraped paint.

I see people all the time driving through parking lots and even backing up into/out of driveways while holding a phone up to their ear and I just shake my head and utter a curse word or two.

Hopefully, next time the phone rings while you are in a similar situation you will wait a few minutes and pull over and take the call or at least wait until you are in a situation with fewer variable, like cruising along at speed already.

Not trying to be a jerk here.....but cell phone use is a MAJOR problem today, especially when we are talking about driving vehicles the size of our Rams. People think they are just fine driving while yapping on phones and texting, but they are the two biggest dangers on our roadways today, I figure.

Just saying.
