Not too impressed with the infinity upgrade

Completely agree with everyone on to here about the Alpine "downgraded" system. It sounds awful. I was at the dealer and listened to the Standard system verse the Alpine system, back and forth. And the standard was far superior.

So I went with the Infinity upgrade which most here recommended.

The front dash speakers Did make a difference they were brighter, more Highs. But not completely changing the world as some said. I think they might be a little quieter volume wise.

The problem I had is with the rear door speakers. Infinity 9622i. I replaced the passenger rear door only, faded to the rear, and then went back and forth between left and right to compare the new infinity to the stock Alpine. And what surprised me most was the bass was cut in half when I faded to the Infiniti. The Infiniti is brighter, clearer... so that initially got me excited that it would sound better, but definitely had about half of the bass response.*

I also disconnected the sub during this test to be sure I was hearing just the speakers and used metra connectors, checked my positive and negatives to make sure the phase was correct. Unless something was wired backwards from the factory...

*So I did not want to lose so much bass because I feel there's not much bass to begin with. So I just put the alpines back in and I'm looking for something better in the rear? Without spending $200? Is that possible?

Something brighter that has the same bass response as the alpines??

I have a pair of Infinity Reference 6 x 9 2 way in the rear doors... and I also find them a bit lacking. In the front doors I replaced the factory Alpine speakers with a set of cheap 2 way Rockford Fosgate Prime 6 x 9 until I could find some mid-bass speakers only that I liked.

Guess what? I like the RF better than the Infinity. Which truly surprises me, but given the way the stock system has been cut off, it sort of makes sense. At full volume on bass heavy tracks they perform quite well.

The RF I ordered were from Sonic Electronics and are very reasonable in price. The mid bass response in the front doors is good, and with proper sound deadening and baffling, would be even better. Don't get me wrong, these are not the best speakers out there...but for an OEM replacement, they are far better than the Alpine OEM junk.

I like them enough that I am going to order another set for the rears. Hopefully that little tweeter sounds ok back there?

Cool thanks! I tried the Infiniti rear Tweeter in the ceiling and didn't think it sounded as good as the stock Alpine. The stock Alpine is a bigger speaker so I'm thinking it reproduces some of the lower frequencies better. Meaning it has more of an expanded frequency range than that tiny little Infinity. So I sent those back but I did have some leftover Alpine R type 1 inch tweeters that I put up there and could sort of angle them towards my head better so they were shooting at the driver's position better. even though those were 4 ohm , I think they sounded better.

You haven't tried the Rockford's in the rear doors yet so you're unsure about the clarity of them? They just have good bass response?

I have McIntosh speakers and a Carver amp at home. Old school Sennheiser headphones, too. I think the Alpine system sounds just fine, with better bass than the Logic 7 system on my old BMW, but maybe less clarity elsewhere. It's definitely not audiophile quality, but it's totally reasonable. I can play something insane, like the 808 on Hello Brooklyn, and the speakers don't even bat an eye.

The alpine OEM 8 speakers keep up and blend with my huge Substage very well, I'm actually impressed with the door speaker quality and the dash speakers have just enough sparkle to keep up. Unless you are all audiophiles, I'd venture to say you're unhappy with under 60hz frequencies which I completely agree with.

The speakers dont bat an eye because they dont go up very loud.

The center speaker completely throws off the stereo image.

The rear speakers dont have enough power going to them and lack clarity... theyre pretty muddy...
