I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 with about 19000 miles on it. So far I have had oil changes at about 5500 miles, 11000 miles, and 15500 miles.

About 300 miles again the oil change light came on. However my last Oil Change was just about 4 months ago and 3500 miles.

I thought I could wait 6 months / 6000 miles between oil changes. Do you all know how reliable the system is? I plan on driving about 600 miles to weekend and am wondering if I must get the oil change before i go.

using regular dinosaur oil, your owners manual reads
2009 5.7 oil/filter change is at 3,000 miles
2010 5.7 oil/filter change is at 5,000 miles
2012 is at 8,000 miles

stick with the 5,000 or 5,500 mile changes & you will always be safe
longer duration with synthetic oil

reset your service light by turning your key on, do not start your Ram, within 10 seconds press your gas pedal to the floor 3 times, turn key off. If you did it right, when you turn your key back on, the light should be OFF

basically it is 4 times a year...a $200 insurance policy for me!!
