You want the right amount of oil, too much and it can get dumped into your intake through the PCV system or lead to excessive oil pressure. Too little and you lose lubrication and can have low oil pressure. Hemis take 7 quarts, so just use 7 quarts.

How the hell does a dealer put the wrong amount of oil in a 5.7 Hemi? Its one of Chrysler's most popular engines across the entire CJDR lineup.

Well, nowadays the oil changes go to the "greenhorns" or "lube techs" at dealerships. And most dealership shops have the oil hoses on retractable lines from the roof. When the lube tech goes to pull the trigger and starts pumping the new oil in, if they don't pay close attention, they can easily overfill in seconds. And, what lube tech wants to lift the vehicle back in the air and remove the drain plug again?

The likely reason and why as long as I am able, I'll change my own oil & filter.

too much oil can damage an engine, if there is enough for the crank to whip the oil into foam....or so I have heard from a retired mechanic.

When you take it back to the dealer
if the tech has a brain, they will just drop the oil filter & screw on another one & call it good
even if it just a tad above the full mark after doing the filter change

once you unscrew that plug in the oil pan, have fun trying to screw it back in while the oil is still draining, just to let out a quart

don't ask ....
