I just bought a new 2014 ram sport, and I am considering having opti-coat installed professionally. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions/experiences with this product. Just want to know if it is worth the money. Also, I am admittedly not the best at washing my vehicle often.

opti-coat is a great product and offers some great protection, but it is not bulletproof. you will still need to adopt a proper wash method and avoid the carwashes with spinning brushes or else you will be swirling up the coating and paint in no time.

i would still recommend it or cquartz finest if you are looking at a pro install, and would likely lean to finest on metallic or dark paints. it seems to finish nicer and doesnt mute the flake like some have reported with opti-coat. either product will offer great durability and protection.

I am in NS, as well... Who is the certified installer? I've been looking and the only place I have found is a guy in Digby.
I am in Halifax, and the spot I found is called House of Auto Details in Bedford. I have an appointment there tomorrow to get my wife's car detailed, and I am going to discuss Opti-coat with them. I spoke to them on the phone, and they seemed well informed on the product and I recently found on their Facebook page where they claim to be the only certified Opti-coat installer east of Quebec.

Opti coat and it's installers have and are having a few problems right now based on the fact that Opti has discontinued Opti Coat 2.0 for the general public as a result of some detailers using the 2.0(it doesn't last as long as the pro stuff) and telling customers it was really the Opti Coat that is to be used by pro detailers only and has a life time guarantee. In addition the price of the Opti products have increase over 600% in the last couple of years. Pro Opti Coat now has a 5 year guarantee and must be installed by a certified installer. All of this background only means make sure which product your detailer is using and be prepared to pay more because of the price increase. It seems that most detailer charge about $500 to install the Opti Coat. Any paint correction etc is an extra charge. It is still an exceptional product but not a cure all. You still need to provide some care to your trucks paint.

Can you still use products over the opti-coat?

Opti-coat provides the protection to your paint and very good protection. Some folks apply wax afterwards for a certain look, but is not necessary for protection and regular washing using the 2-bucket method is well advised, so yes products can be applied on top.

Avoid it, I've had to buff it off of a couple of cars. It's not as durable as the factory clear coat and you will eventually end up with more swirls/webbing in your finish. Just stick with a good quality wax and save yourself some headaches down the road.

the only thing i would top opti coat with is optimum instant detailer. anything else will affect the hydrophobic qualities of the coating. there is no need to top it.

Sorry, I haven't been online in a while. I went and spoke with them last week. They seem to be legit. They told me they actually have a 10 year warranty on the install, and it is through the rep in Quebec. It isn't cheap though. They are asking $750 for the truck. I am thinking i will get it done.
