I've got a radar detector that I am going to be mounting up high on the windshield and would like to pull power for it out of the overhead console (where the switch is for the sliding rear window). Before I go breaking parts I wanted to see if there were any tips or tricks to opening it up.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, the way to pull down the overhead console is to pull down from the side edges towards the back (by the lights) with some force until the spring clips release. You need to pull on the outer trim piece not just the black part to the console. Once the clips release the console swings down then you can pull it slightly towards the back until the front tabs clear the inside mounting bracket under the headliner.

FYI not sure on your set-up but i would suggest stealing power from sliging window. If you pull it from the lights they get constant power.(power with key off) you will need to turn unit on and off every time you get in and out. Im sure you know this but.... just wanted to save you from having to redo a clean neat job!!
