I've come across a lot of owners complaining about the chrome bezel around the floor shifter (rectangle piece). Not once in broad daylight has it reflected sunlight as bad as some people have said. Until last week it wasn't a headache. Good god I got blinded so bad and that was enough for me.

I went by Lowe's and picked up a spray can of Rustoleum Metallic brilliant metal finish. Hit the first coat of spray 25 minutes ago. Probably do 3 coats total. I didn't do a primer. Unless I go to the store right now I won't do a clearcoat either.

Pics when it's done of course!

I've read that here too and have yet to experience any problem with it. I'm paining the silver trim flame red this week but plan to leave the chrome bezel as is.

Finished! I'm making sure it is completely dry before snapping it back into place. I had to do a 4th coat since my fingerprint left an impression . Did 4 coats of spray, 3 coats of clear. I didn't scuff or score the surface area or any promoting spray, just used rubbing alcohol to clean the surface is all.

I have never tackled any kind of painting project like this before. The results only speak as to how simple this type of stuff really is. I'm totally satisfied with the final color. I'd highly recommend a few rounds of clear coat to anyone else thinking of doing this.

I will most certainly be doing the A/C vent pieces. I REALLY want to do the entire radio faceplate...the surface area scares me a bit. This chrome piece was a piece of cake looking back. Next will be the grill emblem, not sure which route I'll go yet with it.

Thanks so much for the kind words! Gives me motivation!!!

My Wife's Avenger shifter bezel was a chrome sunlight reflecting nightmare and I did the same. Grey scotch pad, wiped with wax & grease remover and sprayed it body colour bc/cc... looks great!
