PCM Relearn times

So I've been having some issues on getting my tranny right after my stall converter install. Tranny feels likes it going out of lock/unlock quite a bit especially before its getting ready to shift. I've heard that sometimes the relearn process should take care of this itself and I think it did at one point. I was having some problems with my trinity since diablo couldn't get there head out of there a$$ on there software issues and ran the truck for about 2 months with no tune in it. In this time I think the pcm was really getting all the quirks worked out and was shifting really well. Now I have the trinity back working and an aftermarket tune in it and of course it shifts like crap. My question is if this process will reset every time a install a different tune? I'm really hoping David at white lightning can get me setup but so far nothing is changing so im wondering if after a couple months the truck will fix itself?

I dident do a TQ like you did but I did a gear swap from 355 to 410 and I immediately noticed my tranny tempature went up 20 degrees. It took about about 2000 miles for the tranny to relearn the new gears. But now the 410's are firing on all cylinders and tranny temps are back to normal. Took longer than I thought but it run like a beast.

I just installed an edge 2800 stall in my 2013 Ram and I didn't have to get a quick learn or change my custom tune at all for it. Truck drives very smooth and shifts same as before. I would say it's either an issue with your install or and issue in your custom tune. Also by shifting "crappy" do you mean too hard shifts, slow shifts, etc. that could be interpreted different by different people.

I guess I should clarify that the shift itself is fine, its the lock/unlock of the converter leading up to shifts in some gears. Through first gear its perfect, second has been a little iffy but last time I drove it it has gotten better. Right now I think he has it set to stock lock/unlock settings which helps some. And like I said in the original post after driving my truck with no tune for a while the computer was able to almost completely eliminate any fluttering on its own. I do notice it quite a bit at about 75% throttle though were it is right on the edge of flash torque it seems like.

I had heard of someone else having kind of the same issues and he ended up finding out that the shop he had install his converter only added 1/2 quart so he was low on tranny fluid and when he topped it off everything was fine. I prefilled my converter before install with over 2 qts and checked it to top off after install and warm up. Right now it shows just a hair over full (not sure how I got too much) so I know that Im not low on fluid. From whom ive talked to they didn't think that would be any issue and I have watched my tranny temps and there is no change from the temps when the factory converter was in.

Ok so I have another question. Dave told me I should use an additive that is suppose tochelp the problem? First im not sure why a additive would be necessary to fix the issue and second, has anyone heard of this additive and have you used it. Its lubegaurd Dr. Tranny instant shudder fix. Dave said he talked to a guy that works for Dodge and he recommends it for these issues. Does converter shutter sound likenthe issue im having?

I have experienced torque converter shudder in an older truck I once owned. It was an f150 with high mileage on it. It almost felt like the entire truck would vibrate/shake on takeoff sometimes. I can't imagine you would have this issue with an almost new converter/truck though. I also used the supposed "converter shudder fix" fluid in that truck, and it didn't do jack. I would say don't use the additive as it will just mask whatever issue you are currently having with your transmission, if it even does anything at all.

Ok so I did put the additive in the truck after talking to a dodge service manager, the guys down at circle d and Dave. It did help but has not completely eliminate it. It does act much better but there is still some fluttering in there. Hopefully its close enough now that with some tuning tweaks we can get this eliminated....I hope.
