This may be petty but when I went to pickup my brand new 2014 Ram 1500 Black Express the drivers door lock malfunctioned. It wouldn't lock remotely. It would lock manually but the locking shaft was also sticking out about 2.5 inches. The dealer says it may be due to the undercoating or paint protection. In any event, they said they would order a new lock. Well that didn't work and the next step was a software update. Apparently there is a recall [MDH 041117] for the radio frequency hub module and they did apply that. The door lock works though it was working prior to the update as I manually worked it loose anyway. But what bothers me is its still extended inches farther then the passenger side. The passenger side when locked is even with the cuts on the pin. The drivers side is extended about 2 inches out. I mean its higher than the passenger side when its unlocked. It visually looks like the door is unlocked. Is there a way to adjust the height of the door lock pin or am I just being too petty and anal?

I would make sure it gets fixed. It's a brand new truck! And when you go to sell it that will be one of the first things someone can point out and complain about. Maybe call Chrysler care and get a referral to a better dealer. If they have too then replace the entire door but they should be able to adjust the current one.

Ill give them a shout. I have another dealership close to work that I plan to use anyway. The only kicker here is when I bought the truck I added the remote start (paid in full) and its been on back order since day 1. Now the eta is Aug 1st so I still have to deal with this place.

At least you acknowledge that you might be being petty and/or anal. Which a lot of people who are actually petty/anal don't ever do..I applaud you for that..

I'd make them get it right though.

Dealing with the petty and anal for over 30 years I tend to let this stuff slide. But in this case I wouldn't.

I'm new here and its not a bash either but it has me concerned.
There are pages upon pages of poor workmanship and bad Quality Control here from Ram-Chrysler. It just seems the QC issue are well out of the norm even for a forum where people tend to run to post a complaint.

Looks like the Ram guys need to make Quality Job 1.
Much of this stuff is far from petty.

I let all kinds of things slip by. This would not be one of them. I look at my vehicles 10 times a day to make sure they are locked and this would drive me. Most vehicle contents theft is because of unlocked doors and I wouldn't want mine looking unlocked.

Clearly there is something wrong with the drivers door lock set up and it needs to be fixed properly.

To the poster who said its new it needs to be perfect I say this. If you spend your life expecting everything to be perfect you are in for a life time of disappointment.

Perfection is unattainable.

As long as the problems are corrected properly the business, no matter what the business is, have done their job.

Ram is no different than any other manufacture. Drive to any brand dealership and go to the service department. I bet every last one of them are working on vehicles.

I know the Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Nissan, the list goes on and on are all busy where I live.

I am very happy with Ram, my Mazda 6 and my Victory motorcycle. Of the three only the Ram will have gone in for warranty work and that is because of a bad Uconnect update and really can not be held against Ram when it comes down to it. Outside of the Uconnect update killing the radio my Ram has had no problems.

I have read many posts about the bed is not lined up, well yes it is, Ram lines each bed up with the right side of the cab, the front of the bed is not as wide as the cab and Ram choose to line them up with the right side yet you will read post after post about people complaining about the bed not being lined up. I looked at many Rams on the dealers lot over the years and every single one had the bed lined up with the right side of the cab.

My 2002 was lined up with the right side, my 2005 3500 the same. My 20007 2500 the same as was the 2008 1500 and now my 2014 1500.

It does not bother me to have that little bit of space on the left side where the bed sits in a little from the cab. In fact outside of a few who complain on forums like this one I bet 99.9% of the people who buy a Ram do not ever notice this.

I can't say if my 1996 or 1998 Rams were lined up that way as I never looked and it did not catch my eye just as all the following Rams have not caught my eye for this.

Where i live, something like a locking mechanism being higher then the other, would be an invitation to people that are light fingered

I don't believe that my manual locking knobs have ever been used, at least by me
I never have had a electrical short or completely dead battery, where i would need to use it.

It is just a redundant device, in case of loss of power

I would almost have to say that the Manual locking knob is the incorrect plastic knob
or that the rod it is screwed onto is too long or in the wrong hole in the actuator

The locking pins are on a threaded rod, you may be able to screw them down farther with your fingers. If you cannot the base of the pin has a hex head. I just took the door panels off of mine the other day, removed the pins and drilled a half inch out of them, and screwed them back on. I wanted them to be flush to the door panel.

I think you're well within your rights to expect a "representative" truck regardless of trim level. you're shelling out money for a product, and you have the right to expect that that product be according to specs. You wouldn't hesitate to bring back a $10 item from wal-mart if it didn't meet specs - so why should you accept this. it's merely a matter of scale.
