Looking good man, if you're not busy this Saturday September 14th you should swing by crosstown dodge for their show n shine between 11 and 3. Ill have my truck there and would love to pick your brain about a few of your mods, grab some contact info for the shop that built your tranny

I still have some tuning bugs for MGH to adjust (running way too rich at 10.2 a/f)

and the new trans is going in next weekend, along with a new torque converter and new tune

So I took the stock tranny for its last spin down the quarter
(It protested at every shift LOL s-s-s-studder -shift!)

Still not too bad though for 4000' DA

Left Lane car# 6280

Could have been a 12.8 run at 0 DA

Maybe next time :4-dontknow:

I knew based on past track performance it "Should" have put down a 12.8 run easily
so the transmission was definitely on the way out, confirmed yesterday when it threw this code...

She's DONE!

No surprise to me at all,
and the reason I had a built trans on hand before I put the supercharger on.

Stock trans lasted exactly 2 days short of 2 months under 8psi Boost

in the famous words of Arnold....."I'll be BACK" lol

Time for an update I guess, it's been 6 long months

Shortly after installing my L&M transmission, I lost the OD frictions
(threw code for incorrect gear ratio 4th gear)

Mike couldn't get me his custom trans tuning quick enough due to scheduling conflicts with HHP.

We thought it would be okay to drive for at least a month without tuning,
...but without a quick learn and a new 3000 stall ATS TC, I burnt the OD frictions within two weeks.
Not enough line pressure in the standard tuning to hold the discs from spinning and burning up I guess.

Mike sent me replacements and will step me through the procedures,
But I decided to just park it for the Winter, now that Spring is near it's time to get ready for track season again (opens end of April)

He also sent me a whole set of like-new frictions from one of his cores for my dead stock transmission
...all on his dime, So I'm going to try and use that one as a practice trans.

Stock Frictions/Steels

L&M Over Drive = 12 Alto Red Eagle double sided frictions

I found an awesome teardown vid on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIeWHqO27TA

Also grabbed one of these off ebay:

If all goes well with the stocker
MY buddy Brad (MGRAM-10) and I will drop the L&M trans from my truck the following weekend
swap the new OD frictions in then re-install, along with my new Long Tube Headers.

Since I have to pull the exhaust (again) to get the trans out,
I figured I may as well upgrade my crappy JBA shorty headers
... and performance sucking stock cats with these...

JBA Long Tubes !!! 1=7/8" Primaries and no Cat's for better Flow

Thanks to Matt from Moes' performance....$719
(less than $80 more than JBA shorty headers)

Why is this not in custom build threads? Your truck and this thread is a sweet ass build man.
Good Question,

I guess I never expected it to turn into a major build, and didn't know there was a section for that.
This was just supposed to be a post to show some of the cosmetic things I did to make it look good.

Then after spending too much time at the track,
I got bit by the Speed Bug, BAD!

Only major mod left after this round will likely be a 4.10 or 4.56 gear swap and a Detroit TruTrac.

Your truck is amazing. And this thread has for sure been an amazing build up of what it was to what it is now.

Just read your build thread from cover to cover. Wow man, its flippin' awesome. Your truck looks great and I have no doubt you'll have it back together and dialed in no time. Really enjoyed reading and staring at it.

Good luck and thanks for sharing...

Stock Frictions/Steels (for under drive and over drive)

^^^^ 2c clutch pack 2 large steels, 2 large frictions

L&M Over Drive uses 12 Red Eagle double sided frictions with more friction area, no steels
( stock OD has just 4 single sided frictions and 4 steels) Clearly not enough for Boosted Rams!

I found an awesome teardown vid on YouTube:

Also grabbed an ATSG manual off ebay:

Trans Re-Build #1 Done!

Piece of Cake!

Drained Trans, Removed all the sensors, then the pan
and left the rear section on, since we don't need access the low/reverse sprag

Valve Body out

Pump Out

1st drum assembly out that houses the OD and UD frictions/steels

Cracked the drum open to pull out the frictions and steels

Burned up Over Drive frictions/steels came out first

Burned up Over Drive frictions/steels came out first.
These are the ones responsible for throwing incorrect ratio codes for 4th and 5th.

Going in for the Under Drive Frictions

Under Drive frictions and steels were flawless
No huge surprise that these were okay because my truck never experienced slip while launching it, even with 8psi Boost and a 3400 stall speed TC.

Next drum to come out holds the 2c frictions and steels,

But first we swapped the replacement OD frictions/steels Mike sent,
Re-installed my good UD frictions/steels and closed up the first drum.
(to minimize the amount of frictions, steels, bearings and snap rings sitting around loose.)

I sent a quick text to Mike to ask if it was still necessary to go onto the next set,
because the U/D frictions looked so clean, He replied right away, Yes 2C can often be the worst
...he was right.

Pulled the 2C frictions/steels, steels were burned up pretty bad, chunks missing out of the frictions in several places

Swapped the ones Mike sent me and re-installed the housing and snap rings

Everything went back in just about as easy as it came out,
Pretty much impossible to do incorrectly because the snap rings wont line up
with the grooves if you got something in the wrong order/position.

Total bench time, not counting a pizza break was probably an hour and a bit.
...and most of that was mopping up fluid and cleaning the old RTV off the pan.

Within the next week or two we'll drop the L&M trans out of my truck
and replace the OD frictions in the first drum assembly.

Filters and Fluid ready to go,
just waiting on my header collector flange/reducers.

Anyone with basic mechanical skills can do this in no time,
Just don't go a dealership parts counter for rebuild parts, they will rape you!

Btw how's the light output with those covers? I have black projectors, but I love the look of the blacked out lights....problem is that I work night shift and can't give up much light output
Light output sucks!
I don't usually drive at night, but have to use my fogs when I do,
The covers pop on/off easy enough but would a pita to do daily.

I'm pretty sure they wont fit over the stock projector headlights due to the bulge in the front face near the main lamp anyway.
