At the dealership now dropping it off. The service manager’s 19 is in shop for same issue as well as another customer. They’ve had Star cases open on theirs. Tech said he didn’t need to ride with me to feel the clunk because they know it exists now that I’m not the only one complaining. Guys, please go in and get it checked. And as I’m typing this, manager walks up and says his is fixed. They bought “body ears” to attach all under truck and drove it. It relays to a hand held screen. He said it found nothing so they went under his truck and tightened every single thing they could and it’s fixed. He admitted they tightened so much that they aren’t sure what was loose. I’ve had my body mounts tightened already, so that’s not it on mine. He’s all smiles and he swears mine will be fixed even if they just have to tighten every single thing. But the Star cases are open on those other two trucks so hopefully that helps everyone.

Wasnt it somewhere in this thread that it was determined to be the steering rack?
I think someone pointed at a thread on a 5th gen specific forum where an owner had the same problem, RAM cares, the dealer and FCA got involved and determined the steering rack was the culprit (either defective or not installed correctly from the factory)
Others chimed in with similar issues and the resolution was the same.

That person changed the rack and pinion and thought it was fixed but it wasn't. I talked to him here and on 5th gen. Another person is saying he believes it to be the intermerdiate steering shaft.
Dealership just called me. They did, to my truck, what they did to the Service Manager's truck. I'll try to type exactly what they said and when I get the service ticket, if I see something different, I'll let you know. Mind you, I haven't driven it yet and they are telling me to drive it and see if all is well.
They lifted the truck and loosened the ball joints, sway bar, sway bar linkage, tie rod, control arms, wheel bearings (I hope I didn't miss anything). Then they lowered the truck and let it sit there for a few minutes. Then came back, raised the truck back up and retorqued all of those things they loosend. Then the called the foreman who took it on a 10 mile ride and he said he couldn't replicate the clunk.
My drive from there to home will be about 13 miles and I'll give you an update later this evening and then another in a day or two. If I missed something in their diagnosis and see it on the sheet, I'll come back and give that to you.

Picked up truck. I reported a few threads above what they checked and tightened. In addition, they found loose bolts at lower strut/shock mount to control arm. It was 10lbs under torqued.
So, my drive home was 13 paranoid miles listening and feeling like a hawk. I could have sworn I heard it twice, but I’m just not sure. What I do know is I would usually have heard it about 6-7 times or more without even trying to. So I pulled Into the hospital parking lot by my house and I drove that parking lot making each turn in and out of “rows” and around the hospital completely making sure to make the truck rock hard. I probably made 15-20 hard turns and I should have heard/felt, but I didn’t. Pulled into my neighborhood which is a turn that has a dip and I always feel it there, but I didn’t. Backed into my driveway as usual, but then pulled out completely as I turned about 10 times in both directions. I always hear it pulling out in the mornkng, cuz my driveway dips down into the road and as I turn, the truck rocks. I didn’t feel it.
Because I swear I heard it twice, but not sure —I can’t report it’s fixed. I’m comfortable reporting that before today, I would have felt it a million times with all those maneuvers I made at the hospital and out of driveway.
I’ll come back tomorrow after driving to work. That’s only about 15 miles too. Buy I always hear it pulling out of my driveway and about 3 more turns I make.

Been a couple days now since my fix that I posted. I’m so skeptical, I’m scared to sound optimistic. However, I will say that my clunk has left me for the time beeing. I think the 1-2 times I swore I felt it, you could have blown ur horn at me and I would have said it was a clunk. Almost like the fear u have after an operation and u swear it’s not fixed. I’ve ridden around with the music off and AC down low and listening/feeling like a hawk and it’s no longer there.
So if it comes back, I would say it’s suspension related because one or all of those things they tightened has stopped it for the time being. I gotta admit I’ve rocked back and forth on some irregular turns/bumps/ dips that twists my truck—and nothing. I usually feel it on some sharper curves or intersection turns and I’m not now.
I won’t have another report until Sunday night or Monday. I’ve been neglecting my Harley since I bought this ram. Time for some wind therapy the next couple days.

Its basically the same problem as all of us who came from GM with the Chevy shake problems. Since I got rid of my two POS Silverado's I'm way to sensitive to vibrations that I wouldn't have given a second thought too 10 years ago.

Yup came back said they couldn’t find it.. ? on the way home started back up again, this $hit is ridiculous. This needs to be fixed seems like after you buy a new vehicle it’s the attitude of ohwell not our problem anymore “we did our job of selling the truck” I’ve had 3 Ram trucks, a Durango, Challenger, SRT-4 and to have issues with the most expensive is disheartening there is no pride in workmanship anymore.

What gets me is they hear it when you are driving it with them, say its not right, then you leave it and all of a sudden "could not recreate" or "its normal".

That’s what someone posted on another forum.
Mine clunks every now and then and only upon entering two particular streets.
I’ll just wait until a tsb is available to take to the dealer.
