My truck build sheet includes "GU4S Power Multi-Function F/Away Mirrors". The mirrors on the truck are power adjustable, but not power folding. Does anyone have a truck with power folding mirrors, and if so, do you know what the build item is for them?

Thanks.

If I read correctly, the power fold away mirrors didnt have a production date until 3 OCT so I doubt they have hit the floors yet.

its a new feature for the 2012s but late availability. The new tow mirrors will have the addition of power fold away so they wont hang out to get smacked when parking street side or in tight spaces.

Hope it's a easy retrofit to my 2010. I would like not having to get out to fold my mirrors in before I put the truck in the garage.

I doubt it will be a cheap retro fit if it is even possible. You will have to buy all new mirrors plus a new mirror controller for the door. I would guess the whole thing could be close to $1500 considering the tow mirrors we have now cost close to a grand just for the pair.

Maybe find a wrecked Laramie and see if you can pull enough parts to make it work, since they came with them at least into 2010. There's a lot of stuff that goes into that option on Laramie so you probably can't get enough to make it happen. I know it includes the memory functions on the drivers seat and the mirrors, maybe the pedals too, and then of course the button to make the mirrors fold.

The power folding mirrors is new for 2012 and only a late availability. I have a 2010 Laramie with tow mirrors. They have the memory feature as well as being heated plus the added lights (turn signal and puddle) but the flip out and fold away are all manual. The new mirrors will still be manual flip out (i.e. for towing) but they will have an added power fold away function (i.e. fold back so they don't stick out for when parking in tight spaces) now. Ram didn't start production on these until the beginning of this month though. These new mirrors will have some sort of motor function added on the base for folding which is why its doubtful you will be able to mold the previous mirrors to do this.

They were available at least in 2011 in 'non tow.' I was pretty sure my coworker's 2010 Laramie them, but maybe he actually has a very early 2011, 99% sure he has them one way or the other. Check the owners manual on page 98 for the switch location http://www.autodealertools.com/quickQuote/manuals/2011/Ram 3500.pdf

I know if we were talking only 2011s, the tow mirrors are technically an 'upgrade' that strips the power fold away. There's a blank in between the L R adjust select buttons that is the 'fold/unfold' button on those models that have it. I agonized for a full month or more between my sport and a Laramie for those 3 options that I couldn't have...

Check out these links. I'm telling you it is a new option for 2012. The power fold option has been a plan for a while but they never developed a satisfactory funtional mirror until now. Yes, the manual says if equipped but car manuals often use carry over from different vehicle that have similar equipment. They were planning on this being available but never got it out in time.

The mirrors prior to the new 2012 were all (with the exception of base and slt) power multi-funtion fold away mirrors. the power refers to the multifunction (memory, mirror adjust, heat, and lights) but not the fold away.

I was in the process of ordering a 2012 HD but had to wait until they became available. (Because of changes in my deployment cycle, i opted to hold off for a while and stick with my 2010 for a bit)
