I have a 2017 crew cab 1500 Sport. I recently got a message that an update was available for my 8.5 stereo w GPS. I have never installed an update before (on my former 2013 or this 2017) due to hearing horror stories. For what ever reason, I did install this time (moment of weakness? who knows). Tried to use my GPS last night (display map) and my location was no where near where I was. WTF? Had me several miles from where I was. Anyone else had this issue? Always worked fine before.

Also, another irritating thing, radio stays on playing after engine off and opening door. It always shut off before once door opened. Plays for a while now after locking and walking away. I knew it was a mistake to install this update!

Hi, it sounds like your Uconnect system needs to be updated. The files for software level 18.45.01 are currently available on driveUconnect.com. This update ensures continuous access to GPS-based features. Without the update, these features will stop working. I would recommend checking if this update is available for your vehicle. If so, you will be able to download the software to a USB and update your vehicle at home. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I was having the exact same problems. Took it to my dealer and it cost me $200 to have everything updated. The GPS system seems to be working OK now. I'm still getting update notifications on my screen saying that the system will update once I turn everything off. OK... Did that but it comes back and says there was an error and the update failed. This is AFTER the dealer update. Not sure what's going on but the GPS does seem to be working OK now...

Update... I updated the system myself using the download off my computer onto a memory stick. Took the memory stick to the truck and followed the instructions and all is well now. Not sure why it kept saying the updates failed, but once I did it myself, it seems to be OK.

Personally I would be expecting $$$ back from the dealer.

The GPS issues were most likely because you didnt get the 18.45.01 update in time (the issue would being occurring on November 3). There have been several people that said "oh look it still works, I dont need the update", only to have it stop working. And even then, eventually it would work for a little while, stop working, etc.

What I think happened is whatever the dealer did, reset the unit enough so that it worked for a day or two. Just enough to charge you $200 before it stopped working again. YOU did the thing THEY should have done...manually installed 18.45.01.

@klammer76 you need to download and install 18.45.01 to fix the GPS issue. You should be able to get a copy by inputting your VIN here: https://www.driveuconnect.com/support/software-update.html

I have tried to download the update myself and it won't read the thumb drive. I bought a new thumb drive and it won't recognize that one either (both say they are formatted FAT32). I have 37,000 miles and dealer said I will have to pay to have them do the update as over 36,000 miles. This sucks. Love the truck but this pisses me off. I was able to update my former 2013 with no problem when I had it.

I don't know why it won't recognise the zip file on the thumb drive. I bring up the settings scree, system and plug in the thumb drive, nothing.

Make sure you are unzipping the downloaded file to the USB. The only thing that should be on the USB before attempting to update are the files WITHIN the downloaded zip, not the actual zip file itself.

Thanks, I'll give it another try tomorrow.

Hi,

Can you please confirm you're using a USB that is at minimum 4GB large? We recommend using the Kingston brand.

Hi Alison,

I am using a SanDisk 16GB thumb drive. Also tried it with a Lexar 32GB. I was able to update my former 2013 years ago w/o an issue. Downloading the file using my Macbook Pro. Go to settings in the truck, system profile and insrt the thumb drive. Nothing happens. Truck running, parked.

The interesting thing is, when I initially saw the notice for update on my screen, sometime in early November(?) I followed the frocedure to have it updated (at least I thought I did). The truck at that point I believe had just shy of 36,000 miles. I noticed the issues with nav right after that and realized that it had not updated after posting my original message here and checking uconnect as you advised.

Hi,
Can you confirm there are no other files on the USB? If you would like, I can get a case open for you and get this escalated to a Uconnect specialist. If you'd like, please send us your VIN, email, phone number, and mileage to get started.

The only file that is on either drive other than the update is the trashes folder. It can't be deleted.

How do I send the info you requested? PM to RamCares?

Thank you for the assistance

The file listing on your USB key should look exactly like this. Nothing extra, and these files should be at the root of the USB (not in a folder):

I borrowed my girlfriends windows based laptop and downloaded the update to my thumb drive. The truck took the update this time. Haven't had a chance to drive it yet but it took the update. It would not take it when downloading from my Macbook Pro.

Thanks for the help.
