I'm wanting to hard wire my radar detector in me 2911 RAM. If the fuse box was in the dash it would be easy. Ive hears attaching the wire to the rear view mirror wire or to the rear power sliding window but I'm nervous to do that. Im wanting to attach it to the cogs lighter but i have the bucket seat option so i can't figure out what wire it would be behind the dash. Any help and pics would be great. Thanks everyone!

I wired mine up to the overhead console. I just used a multi-meter to find a hot and ground on the rear window switch and hooked it up to that. The overhead console came down easy, just be careful not to crack the trim.

Check out the Invisi-cord - if you have the powered rear view mirror it's a piece of cake, takes 5 minutes, you just stick two wire leads into the plug at back of the mirror and connect to your detector. There's also a couple different mounts to hang the detector from the mirror shaft --- not sure what you're worried about - had mine in my F150 that way for years and just did same to my new Ram 1500. Super clean look and a snap to do.

You need to wire a switch into the loop so you can cut power to the unit. You can be detected using one of these units. I was thinking of putting it behind the garage door opener in the overhead. But it all depends on how hidden you want to have it. The biggest problem people have in Canada with using them out in the open so most people hide them so if you have a nice hidden instal and the power wires inside the consuls you'll be able to use it safely and enjoy the benefits with out the worry of detection

What brand of detector do you have? I have the Beltronics 995 and it had 4 wires in the cord. I tried the rear view mirror hook up about a year ago and couldn't get it to work, so I just decided to let the wires show.. The Beltronics I have has the anti detector detector so the police can't detect that I'm using one.

Shadcha,,,, that awesome thanks for the info... This exactly what I had been looking for,, reps to you..

Hex,,,, radar detectors aren't illegal in CA, but windshield mounts are, so you just need one of these clips for your detector that SHADCHA posted. Here is a website that shows which states they are illegal in,,,, http://www.1stradardetectors.com/radar-detector-laws.php
Hope that helps...
they illegal in any comercial vehicle in most states and on all military bases...

Glad to be of help.. I got tired of using suction cups that keep failing when the sun beats down on them, also note that if you plan on getting it from BlendMount website, coupon codes are available to get $10-$15 off from there website, which is even cheaper than Amazon.

Doug -

Reps to the other guy? The invisicord I told you about is the same as his "mirror tap." :wow:

My detector is the Escort Solo 2. I understand they now have a Solo 3.

Finally installed the BlendMount and MirrorTap and have to say that the install was fairly simple and straightforward. As you can see the radar detector is a securely fastened to the stem of the rear view mirror, I HIGHLY recommend this mount to anyone that has a suction cup(s) mounted radar detector. No more finding the RD on the dash cause the suctions cups gave. Also the MirrorTap and Invicord are great ways to connect your RD to your auto dimming mirror.

I wired mine into the overhead console. Used a multi meter and mounted it on top of the rear view mirror.Like others that have their detectors mounted with out the cord showing. It's under the factory tint line but its very close. The nice part is it is hard to notice outside the truck.

V1 on Blendmount using V1 cord into mirror
bassbolt - How do you like your V1? I have a friend who owns a Viper and several Corvettes that swears by them. Thinking of taking the plunge on one for my Ram. Would appreciate any feedback you might have.
