Any other thoughts on tonneau covers from guys that have had RamBox beds? I was leaning toward the Roll-X but removing the tie down rails makes me wonder if I'll ever need them, and the minute they are out I'm sure I will want them.
I've never had RamBoxes, but love them now! I originally wanted the RollX, but ended up choosing the Bakflip HD, and really happy with it.

Thanks for the update, it sure looked too narrow to me. I think they are a cool innovation for sure. But after getting our planes in my truck now I would have had problems with them.

I just couldn't get past the aesthetics of them. Just don't like the way they look. I also don't want to lose the bed space.
Having said that, I'm glad Ram offers them. It's great for the guys that want/need them to have that option.

Ahh this^^^ most definitely. I think they take away from the looks and I also need the traditional regular bed space for my stuff. We use those types of storage boxes at my job and they inevitably always ended up getting moisture inside them and by the time you get back into it...you now got a mess. All that being said, iy came down to ram box or air suspension and I loved the air suspension

I ordered one with ram boxes

No one around seemed to know the exact dimensions on it and no dealers nearby had one with them, then a local dealer did so I checked it out while I was waiting on my ordered truck to be built

Unfortunately I had to cancel my truck order because neither one of my atvs would have fit in the bed and a truck to me is useless if I can't throw one back there

Ended up with about the same truck minus ram boxes in the end

I have the retraxpro. So far, I really like the functionality and I have no issues with the loss of bed space. It rolls smoothly, it is convenient to be able to lock the in any position, and it is very strong because I have caught my kids standing on it. It is not 100% waterproof. In heavy rain and the car wash a little water gets in around the tailgate. My ramboxes open and close smoothly.

The only downside is the cost. It is very expensive compared to other covers.

The cover attaches to the tie downs. I have used the tie downs with the cover rolled up.

How do you figure your ATV's wouldn't have fit?
If they fit between the wheel wells if a standard box, they'll fit in the rambox model.

I use my truck for work which really only involves a few job site visits but most of the time it is a road only driver. I keep some personal safety gear like hard hats, work shoes, measuring wheel, booster cables, safety gear, washer fluid etc, etc, etc, etc,.
I came from a Honda Ridgeline with trunk in the bed (where I stored all of this stuff) and like my Ram the in cab area was filled with subwoofer etc. They don't leak (make sure to close them tight) and my friend had a 2009 with Ram box and when he ordered his 2014 with 6'4" box he ordered it with the Rambox option. The 6'4" rambox are larger than my 5'7" rambox. One of the reasons he stayed with Ram was because he loved the rambox so much even though he had a lot of problems with the truck.

They are wider then just the wheel wells. I don't think you can fit a 4' wide sheet of plywood between them. That was the deal killer for me because I needed the extra width for RC planes for my son and I. If they were exactly the width of the wheel wells I would have got them.

I can very easily fit 4' sheets of plywood/drywall in the bed of mine and still have wiggle room.

to the OP, I absolutely love mine and never had any issues with them leaking...had the truck since April 2013 and wash it at least once a week...never leaked.

I originally wanted the extang signature series trifold but it was close to $600 so I ordered the stock because with discounts & all it was only about $400 & works the same. Easy on & easy off plus fits in the cab.

Wow...as a newbie I think you guys & this forum is awesome. Thanks much for all your quick input. It looks like I won't be regretting getting the ramboxes according to your responses.

If I remember correctly, the 2009-2011 boxes had a warp/leak issue and a new part was issued to fix it. I haven't heard of anything since then. As for the fading, the bed rail material on top is the same as the rest of the bed rails. It's hard to protect plastic from UV fade for a long time without paint. It all fades eventually without protectant of some sort.

I love my Ramboxes. For those looking for specific measurements in terms of bed width left with the Ramboxes, I took my tape out.

It is exactly 50 inches large.

I was measuring not from the inside of one of the notches (the notches for the bed divider), but really from one raised notch to another raised notch.
So any plywood sheet willl fit easily and a good number of ATVs too.

I was myself worried about the lost bed space, but when you think hard about it, the space you are losing is in front and back of the wheel wells. I can't say I've been using that much this space in a pickup truck. I mean, if the stuff you want to haul cannot even clear the wheel wells, chances are that even if you don't have Ramboxes, the added bed space won't do you any good.

Rain and water do not get in them. Tested in torrential rains, as well as in an automatic car wash. They are lockable with remote and illuminated.

It's so convenient to drop tools, clothes, errands, fishing gear, hunting gear in there instead of having them roll all over inside a dirty bed. How many guys end up having to buy expensive stainless steel boxes for this purpose that take up even more space out of the bed than Ramboxes do? Or cram the back row seats in the cabin with all sorts of stuff?

For the tonneau cover, I simply ordered the tri-fold Mopar tonneau cover from the factory. I'm finding out a retractable would probably have been more useful to me but no complaints about the factory tonneau cover. Good quality, and does the job as intended.

Yeah, I regret not getting one... But in all honesty, I didn't even know such a thing existed when I bought my truck. If I had, I would have gotten them.

I too struggled w/ getting the ram boxes. I traded a 2013 F-150 super crew lariat w/6'6" bed that I put a leer mx shell with sliding windoors & removable rear window on, which was very functional. I ordered a 2014 Laramie, CC, 6'4" bed & did not get the ram boxes with it. In the end it came down to the cost of the option & losing the ability to add a camper shell or a diamondback cover which led to not ordering it with them. Then the dealer ordered the wrong Laramie, so I ordered a 2500 PW SLT instead & still didn't choose the ram boxes for the same reason. For $1300, I can get a lot more options aftermarket for glorified tool boxes/coolers.

Just a simple contractors .02. I own a pool service company and drive a 2006 cc tundra with a single deep weatherguard box on one side of my bed. I got out the tape measure and started comparing. From the sidewall of the bed(not the start of the wheelwell but the actual bed wall at the widest point) to the side of my toolbox is?...you guessed it 4ft. So I really didnt lose any functionality in the rambox and gained More storage cubic footage that is lockable and weatherproof as well as the moveable bed divider and the tiedowns. I ordered the truck with the rambox. I will update if my opinion changes after delivery.
