2011 Ram 1500 258000km and ~6200hrs. I was driving down a gravel road today when it started running rough and threw a P0300 code. When I stopped idle was rough enough to stall. Cylinders 5 & 8 are misfiring (no P0305 or P0308 codes though, only P0300). Everything about this feels like lifter failure; I'll pull the valve covers tomorrow to confirm my suspicion.

Put my new reman in at 135000. All engine clatter went away, and milage has increased. I will NOT let this replacement Eng. idle for long winter warm ups ever!! View attachment 142283
That is a beautiful truck!

I am getting close to enough mileage to do another oil change and Used Oil Analysis. I did one at 125k and the Iron content was way high. I don’t have any performance issues or noises, but want to do another UOA at 5k on this oil.

I do the analysis at every oil change to keep an eye on the oil. What oil do you use?

Mobil 1 Full Syn High Mileage

I’ve used Full Syn from the first oil change back in 2012. Switched to High Mileage flavor after about 80k
My ‘14 is over 86K on the odometer and I’ve done synthetic as well since it was new. I replaced the original oil from the factory with synthetic and have stuck with penzoil ultra platinum since. The oil analysis I have blackstone do comes back looking good, so I keep using it. Do you do your own or does someone do it for you?

If it is wiped lobes, and you plan on fixing it, do yourself a favor and get the complete motor redone. The metal shavings from the cam/lifter have been circulating around your engine (no, your filter will not catch it all) and coat the bearings/cylinder walls, and will undoubtedly cause you grief down the line. Seen it many a times, someone with older car will wipe a flat tappet, just swap out the cam and 3 months later it sounds like the crank is coming out). It's one of those things "Pay me now, or pay me later" things...

While it doesn't seem so, Ram actually sells a 5.7 long block that is decently priced, and comes with a 12 mo. warranty. They are built by Arrington, they were one of the first to offer performance upgrades for the 5.7. 2018-2022 Ram Long Block Engine 68409357AA | Mopar Factory Parts

I do my oil changes, and used Blackstone for the analysis. Found them though a post on this forum.

I replaced the drain plug with this. It makes doing the oil changes a little less messy.
Me too! And I did the relocate for the filter to use the bigger filter with 3/4” fitting… but I’m getting a little leakage. 😢 So I’ll switch back to stock filter at next change. I found a suggestion of using a large zip-lock bag around the filter when removing to keep from spilling down across the steering & crossmember.

I’ve tried the gallon ziplock truck and it’s still messy so I don’t waste any ziplocks on it anymore.

Do you know if that factory reman fits earlier models? I have a 2011 that may have just bit the dust at 77K miles.
Apparently that is for 2018 and up... for a 2011 they list 2 different long blocks, I don't know what the difference is.

Thanks. I think one is MDS and the other is not, but waiting on parts store to confirm.

New here and joining in on this. 2010 Ram 1500 with 162,000 on it. Completely wiped out lobe on #2 cylinder after P0302. Roller is seized up on lifter. Noticed another lobe on the cam is pitted or chipped. Just purchased a Melling replacement cam MC1141. Will do MDS lifters and keep it the same as it was. Doing the work myself and trying to get the front differential lowered....top 2 bolts are a pain and slow going. Any advice on the newer OEM lifters being used? About to check the screens behind the solenoids as mentioned in this forum. Thanks!
