Ram with new engine.

1573 26
Bought this 2017 1500 Laramie this week with 170000 miles. Been looking for two weeks pretty hard and found one close to what I want three hours away. Everything seems to be working as it should so far. When I got there guy told me new motor 20000 miles ago.

If I'd been told ahead of time I wouldn't own this truck. What you all think about situations like this? I don't give a second look if new tranny or engine.

Knowing Ram trucks and their inherent ability to eat cams/lifters for lunch, this may be the reason a new engine was required. And these failures happen at all different mileages. So it may mean that a new engine was not required because the truck was abused, and may be a very good truck otherwise

Thanks Rutt. All input I learn something new. Is that both engines 5.7 and 6.4? The dealer guys said possible lifters or cam but they said they didn't know. What they did say it might have been easier to do new engine. It was done before they got it. This was a small independent used car dealer.
What I hear is both engines, but it seems mostly 5.7's that suffer from the cam and lifter thing. And if it gets shavings in the oil control screen, valve or whatever they call it, they tell you that the engine needs to be replaced. But I would have to see the engine and make a determination of whether or not it's actually a remanufactured engine or not. If it is the side of the block should have these little things stuck to it, and we call them tattletales. If the customer runs the engine hot those things tell the remanufacturer that it was ran hot and they won't stand behind the warranty. If it was a Chrysler new engine put in it it wouldn't have those little tattletales stuck on the freeze plugs. As far as I know all the remanufacturing companies that sell the engines put those on them. Or at least the companies that my buddys shop used to buy from did this
