I just recently purchased another ram.. '98 1500 4x4 quad cab, 5.2, auto. It needs a rear end, the boy I bought it from had completely disassembled it and the ring and pinion had teeth broken. The tag says 3.9, the build sheet from Dodge says 3.92 with trac loc, and when I call looking at salvage yards some say they are 3.90 instead of 3.92.
So what I am wanting to know... Is there a 3.90 and a 3.92 gear available for this model (I believe only 3.92)? Did all rear ends of this gear ratio come with anti spin differential? Will all 2nd gen models fit my 98?

It was and is a 3.92, no 3.90. Anti-spin (sure grip) was an option and not standard. The corporate 9.25 has been around for well over 30 years. Your best bet would be to find a complete unit at a salvage yard with anti-spin.

If you can find the axle assy's still installed, be advised that the ratio and trac lock options are listed on the sticker on the inside of the hood, Good Luck!!!
