I have a 2005 Ram 1500 5.7 with the 9.25 factory anti slip diff. I replaced the passenger side axle shaft so I removed the center pin holding the spider gears in place and replaced the axle shaft.

Now I’m having a difficult time getting the spider gears in place with the shims. The shims slide right out when I turn the axles to get the spider gears in place. I can get the spider gears in with out the shims. But I can’t squeeze the shims back because it’s too tight. I can’t even get the center pin back in because the axle shafts are not spread apart enough to slide the pin in.

I read a few rubuilding threads and they usually have the diff out of the housing and bolts to clamp down the clutches. I don’t want to remove the diff because I don’t have the tools to adjust the backlash. Is there any way to spread the axle shafts apart so that I can get enough room to slide the shims and pin back in place?
