Hi all,

This is my first time posting, but I have been viewing the forum for awhile now and it has helped me through several repairs. Thanks for that!

I found myself in a bind today. I am trying to replace the rear pads and rotors on my 2011 Ram 1500 Sport. It has around 40k on it and the rear rotors were starting to warp and the pads are getting low. Anyways, tire was remove, caliper removed, caliper housing removed, but I can't get the rotor off. Using lots of PB and hammering, I have only gotten it to move maybe a half inch from the dust shield. The way it moves, I'm thinking the e-brake is holding it in place? The e-brake is disengaged (I've even tried engaging/disengaging in hopes of freeing the rotor).

Does anyone have any thoughts? I think maybe adjusting/loosening the e-brake might help, but I'm having trouble finding instructions on doing so. I saw a post on another forum about there being a flat head screw behind a rubber gromet behind the dust shield to adjust the brake. I foudn that but there isnt a screw there, only what looks to be a thin metal bracket. I I see the bolt on the ebrake cable, but I'm afraid of busting it; its rusted pretty bad.

I can post pictures if needed. I'm home visiting my parents until Monday and I hope to get it done before then (my dad has a garage with tools). Otherwise I'll be forced to take it to a garage. Thanks!

that's the issue I had with my dakota one time. The e brake shoes rusted so much I had a hell of a time getting the drum off. I beat on it quite a bit before I got it off. That was my experience anyways. Maybe there's an easier way though. Hopefully someone else chimes in for ya.

We just got it off. I figured out how to loosen the e-brake a bit through the hole on the dust shield. That helped a little bit, but I ended up going off on the back of the rotor with a sledge haha. It eventually popped off. The inside of the rotor drum and outside of the e-brake was rusted pretty good, so that was probably the issue. I posted out of frustration, hoping there was an easier way. Gonna do the other side tmr! Thanks for the reply and nice truck!

Thanks and I"m glad I saw this post because I might do my brakes this year just because I have the same year truck. I was going to but now that I know the brakes might be a pain in the butt I better get on it.
What are you replacing your equipment with?

Wow I wish I would have saw that before! I saw other posts about a bolt trick, but the link was always dead on the thread. Good to know.

I replaced them with premium brakes and rotors from NAPA. I don't need performance and from what I read, NAPA is better than other chain stores like Autozone and AdvancedAuto.
