Well my 3 month old 2014 decided to play a joke on me...

I was in my truck the other morning (Front Passenger Door) and as I was about to walk away I closed the door and heard a POP followed by what sounded like ice or something falling into a bucket...

I walked toward the back and low and behold the rear window exploded outward onto the bed cover... It's tempered glass so no the were no previous chips or cracks, if that was the case it would have shattered before hand.

I'm really scratching my head over this one... it was 93 days old when it had happened.. Chrysler has denied the claim already and its been at the dealer since Saturday (5 days now) while they're contacting their "District Service Manager" ...

You can clearly tell from the pictures below that the window blew outwards... Not sure why they haven't already fixed this on their own...

That's really weird, can't say I've ever heard of this happening before

Glass, brakes, and other things are covered for 1 year or 12k miles. That should be covered.

Least that is what I was told when I bought a truck brand new.

Obviously nothing is covered under the warranty if there is any evidence it was caused by a crash or misuse.

I had a car do that years ago. It was a 86 Dodge Charger so it was a hatch back but my girl friend closed the door of the car and I could set it push up and out from the pressure change and then fall back into the car. I ASSUME it had some kind of crack or damage already but there is no way to know. Your truck could have had some kind of damage, such a a BB gun, and then blown out when you closed the door. They don't always blow apart from damage right away. There is really no way to know what happened.

Sorry guys, haven't been on here for a while!

I took the truck in on the Saturday, I had it back the following Friday, fixed free of charge.

I was told Chrysler declined to fix the window under warranty. Not sure if it was the dealer that took the bullet on fixing it or if they somehow got Chrysler to cover it another way. My Service Manager reached out to his District Service Manager and they got it done regardless!

I didn't realize the rear window (with slider) was 1 full unit! I thought it would have just been the one piece of glass to replace, they have to take the rear seats out and tear the back apart to change the whole thing and the window motor. WHEEEWWW thank god the dealer dealt with it!!!!

Glad it worked out for you. The glass alone probably could be replaced by a glass shop. But I bet the dealership can't just order the pane of glass - they had to order the whole assembly.

Had no idea it was that big of an ordeal, but glad to hear they took care of it. Did they every have any explanation or ideas on what caused it?

Nope, they didn't have a clue.

I suspect, possibly, the seal around the window wasn't installed correctly causing part of the window to touch the body (metal) and it just finally gave way after hitting metal repeatedly. (Heard about this happening to other people so its my best guess)

This just happened to me. My truck is one week old with 280 miles on it. me and my kids got in it and closed our doors except for my 11 year old daughter. She closed her door which was the drivers side rear, its a crew cab and she only weights 65 pounds, and boom the rear window blew out. we were in the truck 30 minutes before that and all was good. Called my dealer instantly and took it to them right then. They took pictures of it and sent them to dodge and had an answer of yes fix it under warranty in about 5 minutes. Thank god.

I would mark this thread as a sticky or something as a co-worker who got a 2014 last month and just last week that happened to him! He got out of the truck, closed the door and POP! back passenger window exploded. Now I am concerned since my truck was built last month and I took delivery not even two weeks ago..
