I just removed the stock door mirrors from my 2010 Ram 1500 Sport and replaced them with a pair of tow mirrors from a 2011 Ram 2500HD. The mirrors fitted perfectly and I retained the electrical adjustment/heating/turn signal and puddle lamp features from my original mirrors without any modifications. It was really simple but I thought i'd do a "how to" anyway just in case anyone was interested:

1. Remove triangular plastic clip on cover using a small flat head screwdriver, try to start at the most inconspicuous point and pry gently away from door being careful not to mark or scratch the cover. This will expose the 3 mounting bolts (there are only 2 in this picture it would seem the third bolt has been sheared off at some point)

2. Remove interior door handle trim by carefully removing the circular plastic clip from behind door handle using a small flat head screwdriver. Remove Philips screw and gently pry the plastic cover away from the door from the edge closest to the door hinges, once the edge is free the trim can be slid towards the hinges and removed over the handle.

3. Remove entire door trim by removing all of the torx fasteners. There are about 7 or 8 around the edge of the trim, use a T20 torx driver and unscrew each fastener until the torx screw comes out, then using a small flat head screwdriver gently pry the fastener part out. The screws only fit in very loosely and sometimes it is possible to just pull them out as a pose to unscrewing them. Once they are all removed simply pull the door trim upwards until it clears the lock, it comes off very easily.

4. Disconnect the wiring by unplugging the 2 connectors (1 white, 1 black) to release the wire bundle for the mirror. You will need to use a small screwdriver to push the release catch in at the side of each of the connectors in order to pull them out. Cut the electrical tape holding the wires to the mounting plate to free the wires completely.

5. Remove mirror by unbolting the 3 mounting bolts using a No 10 spanner, I put the window down so as I could keep a hold of the mirror whilst I removed the bolts. Once the bolts are off gently pull the mirror away from the truck, there is a clip also which helps to secure the mirror so you may need to flex the mirror slightly just to release that clip as you are pulling the mirror away. Congrats you have removed your mirror!

6. Attach your new mirror. Thread the wires through the largest hole, line up the 3 bolts with the 3 bolt holes and push the mirror in, you should feel the clip snap into place. Screw on the 3 nuts to secure the bolts and tighten with the No 10 spanner, that’s your mirror attached!!

7. Reconnect the wiring by plugging your new connectors into the slots that you removed the original connectors from (the white and black connectors are slightly different so you can’t plug them in the wrong slots), retape the excess wire to the mounting plate.

8. At this point I would suggest just hanging the door trim back on and testing the mirrors to make sure all the features work (power adjustment/turn signal, puddle lamps, heating)

9. Replace door trim by lifting up above window sill, lining up the locking pin and dropping trim into place. It helps greatly if you have the trim pushed flat against the door when you drop it down as there are 2 hooks near the bottom of the trim that need to slide down into 2 brackets near the bottom of the door. If you’ve got it all lined up correctly the trim just drops perfectly into place with all the fasteners lined up.

10. Replace door handle trim by sliding in over handle, the back of the trim has 2 tabs that slide in behind the door trim then click the rest into place. Secure with the Philips screw and replace the little plastic cap to cover the screw.

11. Insert all of the fasteners then secure them in place using the torx screws, again they don’t really tighten they just need to be flush to the fasteners to hold them in place.

Does anyone know the part numbers for the the black, power, flip-up tow mirrors? And if this will work on a 2012 SLT 1500 Quad Cab? Just power heated now.
Numbers I had were
55372070AH
55372071AH
Dealer's ordered everything put these so far and when looking on line I get mixed messages on what fits/what doesn't
Any help is appreciated.

Has anyone heard any reviews on the Spec-D aftermarket replacement mirrors (RMX-RAM1025H-P-FS)? I am looking to upgrade my '09 1500 with the towing mirrors as well. I'm assuming they should fit...

Extra Support Brackets for the Flipup Mirror

I ordered what were supposed to be the flipup tow mirror and received the slide out style and in the kit was a extra support bracket to help stop mirror vibration ? So when I ordered the correct flipup style mirror I had the parts person order the brackets that were in the other kit and installed them with the flipup style mirror.
How they Work: they go over the the back mirror studs and then tie to 3 other areas on the door. The 3 other holes where already in my door and they are in a hexagon shape so I went to the local auto parts store and purchased 6 WellNuts and six stove bolts with some fender washers. Insert the WellNuts before you install the brackets and use the stove bolts and fender washsers on the 3 new mounts. WellNuts were used to mount the big mirrors on our old Fire trucks so that is how I came up with using them for this project.

Mirror Part # Flipup, Heated, power, puddle and turn.
68143805AB & 68143804AB $387.00 each ?
Bracket Part #
68078243AA &6807842AA $7.00 each ?

My truck did not come with Puddle and turn signals as it is a Express model but the extra plug for what I asume to be the Puddle and turn lights did plug into my door module and there were pins in the module for the plug to make contact with so I am hoping a dealer flash to enable them will work. Also the plugs are keyed so they only fit in a specific socket in the door module so i do not think they could be plugged into the wrong spot.

Has anyone had the Puddle and turn signals activated successfully on a Express, and if so what are the codes in need to activate.

Did you do this on a 4th gen truck? I just ordered tow mirrors for my 2011 Ram 1500 and would like to use a backing plate if one exists for my truck. My mirrors are the 55372070AH variety but they should have the same bolt pattern as the part number you quoted.

For anybody else searching, the second bracket number is actually 68078242AA

Too Cool.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to leave feedback. Instructions were so clear that a single read-through and look through the pictures was enough for me to change out my old stock mirrors w/o difficulty in under an hour (I'm a doctor, not a mechanic). Great job.

First off thank you for this thread, it really helped me. I had a successful swap with parts from 1A Auto so I can clear up a few things for everyone.

DOOR MODULES:
They DO NOT need to be changed. The part numbers are the same (at least for the 12-15 yrs).

SALES CODE FLASHING:
If you plug in the new mirrors and some features do not work, most likely you just have to flash the sales codes. I had to do this and it worked fine. I do suggest calling around to the dealerships in your area or however far you are willing to drive. I was quoted $65-175 so it will pay off. If you don't want to flash the codes, the functions that are currently flashed in your truck will work. Example: if you had heated, power adjust mirrors and you are upgrading to the heated, power adjust, turn signal, puddle light mirrors, then only the heat and power adjust will work on the tow mirrors. When flipped up, the controls will be 90 degrees off.

INSTALLATION:
Super easy! There is a video on youtube to take the mirrors off and the installation is the reverse. Took me 30 mins which most of the time was spent explaining how everything works to my buddy.

PARTS:
I bought the $330 tow mirrors with puddle lights, turn signals, and heat from 1A Auto. Exact fit and operation, extremely happy!

DEALER SWAPPING:
I spoke to every dealer in my area and everyone said that the mirrors cannot be swapped. They absolutely can, just they will not do it. I was curious how much the OEM parts would be and I almost died when they quoted me $999!

ERROR CODE & TEMP SENSOR:
For the '13-15 mirrors, they have the temp sensor in the driver side mirror. If you install a mirror without the temp sensor, it will show an erroneous temp on the EVIC and throw a code. Mirrors that do not have the temp sensor are '12 and older. You CAN put a '13-15 mirror on a '12 or older. As for error codes, if you install the new mirrors and do not wish to flash the computer, it WILL NOT display an error code. The only issue is that some features may not work on the mirror as described in the "SALES CODE FLASHING."

POWER FOLDING:
**I DID NOT DO THIS** Speaking with a few people and reading through the threads here, I know there is interest in swapping to a power folding mirror, and there is some confusion. The only info I can add is I heard a rumor that a '13-14 power folding mirror will not fit on a non-powerfolding mirror '13-14, but a '15 power folding mirror would fit on a '13-14. I do not know if this is true but if you did this or know it can be done please let us know!

I hope this helps clear some confusion! If you have any further questions please ask or if you can back up anything sound off!
