Hey all. I had the infamous p0456 and p0457 codes on my new to me 06 Ram 1500 4.7 and I started doing some looking around and found that the culprit is the small hose that goes from the cap directly on the tank to the filler neck. With that being said, does anyone know exactly what it takes to slide the bed off (6.5') and where if I can even get that cap without buying a whole new tank? Unfortunately, I don't have a junk yard near buy to just pick one up from there. The nipple that the hose slides onto is broken and that is why I need that dang cap! Thanks in advance!

Now that I am looking, is that the top of the fuel pump that seals off the fuel tank?

Edit: I just looked under there and it is not the fuel pump, its closer to the cab than the fuel pump. Looks like it just has a couple of hoses plugged into it.

I am only guessing from experience with other trucks, mostly Chevy

Usually there is a electrical pigtail, that the wiring harness for the bed plugs into, up close to the firewall, around the steering column
Then 6 or 8 bolts holding the bed to the frame
Then 4 people could lift it off or move it enough to access the gas tank

Or if the tank is close to empty, you could try dropping it out from under

It's a sad day for me. Apparently that piece that is broken is part of the gas tank itself and can not be replaced... $500 something from the dealer. They also quoted me $62.50 for the emblem on the grille. For that cost, I might as well have a custom one made...

For that price it may be worth driving to the nearest junk yard. I know you can get a gas tank from them for about $75 (and even get a 34 gallon if you want to upgrade). Not sure if you know about this site but it works pretty good: http://www.car-part.com

I finished this up today. I picked up a used fuel tank yesterday and a new fuel pump today and threw it in the truck. It's amazing how much easier it is to work underneath the truck when you have a lift to put it on! Thanks for the help everyone!
