Hello all I am a Florida flat land driver. I have the ram 1500 17 bighorn with 8 hp70 2 wheel 3.21. The wife was out in North Carolina and claims she was on a bit of a hill and had go in reverse and the truck would not move. Now this is a brand new truck maybe had 1000. I don’t have very many hills in fl much less drive them in reverse. Everything works great no signs of trouble. So I am planning on getting a boat has anyone experienced any trouble when backing up their +5000lbs load on a driveway with a grade or any uphill reversing?

I have not with my 2016.

Might want to take it to the dealer to check the transmission fluid level - there is no dipstick - and it is possible it is just a bit low from the factory.

One question, was there a trailer on the truck when she tried it?
Did it just rev or do nothing?

Was a door open? Just a thought. I found that some trucks will not shift into gear if the doors are open. Or maybe not shut all the way? Again, it's just a thought. FWIW-I have not had the problem with mine. I park daily on my up hill driveway, nose down/nose up with no issues.

She’s says it reved up and did nothing. All doors were closed she just reached a dead end going down hill stopped and tried backing out. Claims she had to floor it to get it to move. Then gave up and did a u turn and went uphill no problems. I will stop by the dealer and have them check the tranny lvl

It could be something as simple as the selector was not switched all the way over. or was not fully engaged? But, I would get it into the dealer. You will at least, have a record of it if it ever happens again, or becomes a bigger problem.

No issues here, with or without a trailer. It may feel like you habe to press the gas far to get going up a steep hill, maybe traction control had a hand in it too since pulling uphill from the end of the truck with no weight on it is an easy way to induce spin

Hi Lildude512,

We are sorry to hear this happened. If you are in need of additional assistance while your truck is at the dealer, please send us a PM.
