I just purchased a blue 2000 Ram 1500. The truck runs great and I got it for less than half KBB but it make a slight scraping sound when it driving faster then say 15mph. It doesn't do it when idling. Has anyone experienced this? It almost sounds like there is some scraping somewhere along the drivetrain. I cleaned out the transferbox and rear differential and there was no chucks of metal or dirty fluids. Thx!

By the way, the floor board slightly vibrates with the sound.

I would go after the double cardan joint at the back end of the front driveshaft, if its 4wd. Any wobble? it should be stiff, and NO play at all, in any direction. I would also change the front ujoint, too, while its off.(pry on it in all directions) also, the axle joints (pry in all directions, as well.) are probably due, once again, if its 4wd. if its 2wd, I'd definately get after the ujoints on the rear axle driveshaft. Please let us know what'cha find!!!That double cardan is rebuildable, but I wouldn't do anything but take the driveshaft off and deliver it to a driveline specialist, if you haven't got a oxy/acytl torch. it consists of 2 ujoints and a ballsocket assy. (I suspect your ballsocket assy is shot) the ballsocket assy comes as its own kit. Again, if it's 4wd. It should be considerably worse in 4wd.

I worked all day today and won't get a chance to check the things you said to check until Saturday. Thank you for the reply by the way =). It is 4wd and the scraping isn't any worse in 4wd. On Saturday, I will check the things you mentioned. Also, what does assy stand for? Thx.

Do you know if that truck ever went in deep mud, or did a lot of offroading?
Because with mine, i had the same issue, but it turned out to be rocks or whatever around the driveshaft, wheels. Went away with a good spray down of the undercarriage.
