So I bought a new 2011 (manufactured in 2011)Ram Crew Cab less than 30 days ago, and was down on the ground bolting on some Westin Stainless nerf bars, and I noticed something.


Half the trim screws that hold the front fender to the lip of the fender are missing. As in they were never put in at the factory, no marks of any kind where they should have been. Different ones missing on both sides.

Not a huge deal, since I will go today and have them either replace them or give me the hardware to put on myself, but it tells me that little care was put into making sure everything in this truck was done right from the factory and what other bolts are missing that I don't know about. There have been other minor issues like this I have found as well.


I love the truck, and will make it right, but it seems Dodge QC in the Gov't bailout years sure took a hit. My 2008 Durango 4.7L seems to have had a lot better QC in General. Maybe Fiat can make positive impact on Dodge quality.

Yup, my 2010 also has some of that hardware missing. Some fasteners that hold on the inner fender wheel wells on front and rear too are missing. Common thing?

Same on my 2011. Can't possibly be a cost saving measure. Annoying nonetheless

Asside from missing different ones i wonder if maybe they only r supposed to be there only if they have the factory fender flares.

If your trucks final assembly point was Saint Louis, then your truck was assembled by a bunch of workers who lost their jobs. The Saint Louis plant was tore down last year.

I know which ones you are talking about, and those are not the ones that were missing. Yes, there are several empty holes for the optional fender flares on the 1500, but mine was missing the ones that hold on the front bumper middle fascia, and there are also suppose to be two others that only hold in the fender liner, and those two were missing. There are about 4 holes that are supposed to be empty on each side.

The dealer replaced the missing ones and apologized. I spent $5 in gas to get $1 in hardware installed, but it was the principle of the thing to me.

Interestingly, while I was wandering around the lot examining fender wheelwells on the new Rams on the lot, I noticed that while the 1500s all had screw holes empty, on the 2500s there were screws in all holes whether they had the optional flares or not.

Anyway it's done.

I am just hoping they didn't forget a crankshaft main bolt too.

I have been a fan of Mopar since I got my first Plymouth in high school in the '70s, and have had many over the years. I hope this one lives up the the rest I have owned.

pretty bad how manufacturers skimp, 1 screw probably costs them less than a cent due too buying in bulk.... even if they sell half a million of those trucks it wouldnt even cover the payment of 1 truck for 1 year......

First, missing screws, next, we will find hidden compartments full of cocaine and your gardener will insist on borrowing your truck for a day.

That is pretty annoying, but remember, alot of times there are screws that are designed and installed, but are not truly necassary. I totally understand your annoyance, but those could just be those 'spare bolts' that you'll never miss.

Ummmm, St. Louis hasn't produced a truck in a few years, so no his 2011 wouldn't have been built here. :doh:
