2018 Ram 2500 6.4hemi
42k miles

Evic began intermittently pinging and says to "service electronic braking system" and "service abs system". It first happened about 3 months ago. Did it the first time right after the warranty expired of course, but didn't do it again for several weeks. Now it it seems to come on all the time. I assume from reading all the forums that the abs and/or hcu module is bad. Scheduled an appointment with the dealer for this week to be sure.

How complicated would this be to replace myself? I'm pretty handy, can fix most anything. What kind of cost will I be looking at from the dealer?

This seems to be a pretty common issue from everything I've read online. Why has Ram not recalled the obviously junk part? When/if the dealer replaces it, will they replace it with the manufacturers same junk part that will have to be replaced again in 40k miles?

Hannah - I'm unable to locate the prior thread about the ABS light issue for my 3500. Finally able to get an appointment with the dealer. Unable to PM as I don't have enough posts - best way to reach you or you to me? TIA Barry

I have a 2017 dodge ram 1500 in sport with 63,000 miles. I took it to the dealer because the truck would not start just the dash lights would come on. It would say things like service shifter and a abs. Finally after three days the dealer called and said they think it is the ABS module. Has anyone heard anything about this and is there a possible recall as the truck is relatively new. Thank you for your time I look forward to your comment. What a nightmare!!! Ram please help us and fix this

I am having the same issue. I get two messages, SERVICE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM and SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEM. It’s been going on since the truck has had about 20,000 miles, and now has just over 38k. I finally got around to removing the driver side from wheel and fender wall to access the ABS module and HCU. I like to eliminate the simple things first so I removed the electric connector and blew out any dirt and debris with compressed air. Reconnected it and checked, ABS and traction control lights are still on. Next, I gave the connect a firm tap on the side facing out towards me and the lights went out and the messages were gone. Then, I grabbed the connector and shook it around to sort of simulate rough terrain driving, and I heard the chime indicating that the lights are back on and the messages have reappeared. I did the tap again, as before, and the lights and messages are gone. This leaded me to believe that the issue is in the connector. I have to find a way to tighten each individual connector, any ideas?

I am having the same issue. I get two messages, SERVICE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM and SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEM. It’s been going on for a couple of weeks now, often times like popcorn popping! It's extremely irritating. Only thing I've done to the 2018 RAM 3500 with 21k miles is change tires and batteries (obviously besides oil and filters, fuel filters), and fix the front left flat recently. It started right afterward. Bought an OBD reader and it shows no codes. Took it to the dealer, who had it for 2 days, couldn't find any codes or get it to act up, and performed some sort of electronic diagnosis and reset. Couldn't even get it off the lot before it started again. Dealer says they need the vehicle for another 3 days to perform a more thorough diagnosis, and if that fails, then and only then can they get a replacement part. What else can we do?

Took it back to the dealer again, and they specifically checked and confirmed a bad Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), replaced it, and problem solved! Apparently, this happens a lot, and the technician knew exactly what to check for.

My 2018 ram 2500 has the abs issue and at times, constant dinging, battery voltage seems to go up and down. Might start truck tomorrow and no dinging at all. Ram should do a recall.
I have a 2018 3500 Limited with 6.7 L Cummins. It’s doing the same thing. Dealer says it’s the HCU, and it will be replaced tomorrow. We’ll see if it fixes issue. With all these complaints, why has Chrysler not done something?

We have a 2018 ram 2500 with 17,205 miles. It started this too! We have been searching for a recall and have seen so many spots where dodge owners have forked out 100’s of $$ to fix it. Yes, the truck only has 17,205 miles! And it is currently 7-7-22, it was my mother-in-law’s truck which was only used when moving her camper. So she had it garage kept and drove it 2 times a month and to get regular oil changes. She sold her camper and now we have the truck. We only accepted the payments bc of the fact it is still basically BRAND NEW! Anyone hear if there has been a recall yet? Doesn’t seem right and I don’t think we (and certainly not my Mother-in-law!) should have to pay for a problem so many dodges seem to have.

Started happening to my 2018 Ram 3500 as well. "Service Electronic Braking System" intermittently flashes, along with the orange ABS and traction control lights. Seems to happen more on bumpy roads, goes away on smoother roads, then randomly comes back. 47,500 miles and purchased new 3 years ago.

I'm going to fight to have Ram pay for this, since out of warranty. Will see if @ramcares can help.

Looks like a class action lawsuit has been started in Texas:

For reference, here's a video of what happens on the dashboard. Over the last few weeks the beeping/flashing has become much more frequent, sometimes incessant.

My 2018 (Bought new in 2018) 2500 Cummins just started having this issue as well. Service ABS/ Service electronic brakes. Sounds like the HCU. Seems if it rains or gets wet, or morning startup, stays on steady. Then goes random after some time driving. I am very worried they will not honor it under warranty. Not safe as ABS, Traction control and Cruise Control will stop working.
Going to give my dealer a call. May need Ramcares to help me out here as well after I get the case started at dealer.

My 2018 2500 is at the dealer now for i's third HCU. It currently has 40K miles so they are saying this one is on me. Both times it has failed has been on the same sandy road at a friends ranch. It seems the module is easily overloaded. @ramcares for advise or assistance. Not enough posts yet to PM. well got the call back from the dealer and they are going to cover the parts and labor no charge.

O Yea this is exactly what is happening with my 2018 Ram with 28,500 miles its been flashing for about 1000 miles although more recently I have been hunting on rough roads. Filled out info for class action suit and will see in a couple days what dealer has to say and how much. Not a happy camper reading the response from everybody with same problem and Dodge knowing about problem thus causing a class action suit. Power to the people
