Hello I have a 2003 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9 360 I was driving it home today noticed that it was taking a min. to shift out of first gear, then when I parked it would not shift into park has any one heard of this issue or know the fix, once it shifts out of first everything is normal as far as driving it goes.

I'm actually helping someone with a similar issue, negate the parking problem though.

How many miles are on it, how often do you have the bands adjusted and the fluid changed?

I have a feeling that it is associated with the valve body or the whole transmission itself.

It has a hundred forty on it I myself haven't changed the fluid but I just bought it a year ago and it was done right before that.
Well take it to a transmission shop and have them take a look at it. Don't purchase any service just have them do a diagnoses and tell me what they think it is and I will tell you if they're leading you in the right direction or just trying to rip you off! Cause usually most shops not all, will just switch out a sensor or solenoid and charge you 200 bucks and it still won't work then they will say ok needs a rebuild charge you 1500 bucks.

Im gonna take it to school and have codes read on it I try to diagnose it through my teachers first I dont think any of the shops will do a diagnosis around here cheap lol.
I guess I could understand that. Well codes will only tell you the electronics side of the transmission! Their is still the hydraulic side which makes up 90% of the transmission.

Well whatever happens I'm hanging in the trees so just pull me down when you want.

I rethought this and I think I have an idea that might correct the 1-2 shift. I would look into the Accumulator, sometimes they leak and will cause a sluggish shift from 1-2. Now I am not saying ok this is the problem but it's something worth checking into!

As for the parking, you could just have a bent parking rod (happens often). When you go to remove the valve body to check that Accumulator you will be able to check the parking rod, it's suppose to have a slight bend but it's not suppose to be all crinkeled up.
