i'm new here and looked up this question but couldnt find the answer i was looking for. i'm not very mechanical,so i have friends at a shop put my mods on for me,i pay them of course, but when i ask questions about this kind of stuff they try to talk me out of it,so its easier to ask here, get what i need, and then just give it to them to put on.after all, they arent stupid,i do pay them...lol...anyway, i have a 2012- 1500,i already have the customary new truck starter bolt ons,K&N cai,air raid throttle body, flowmaster 40 exaust.i know alot of guys put the magnaflow on for better performance, and if i need to in the summer maybe i'll switch to them.for now, the truck sounds fast if anything. i was debating on adding headers and wasnt sure what i needed, shorty's or long tube. i live in ny,so i'm really not looking for anything top end, there arent any tracks here anymore so i cant really open it up too often legally,75-100mph can get me in alot of trouble.so i'm looking for a little more boost off the line.i'm also open to doing more motor work in the future,a little at a time,as the top quality parts are expensive,so i was wondering if the headers were a good step in that direction,& would i notice the difference? and what would possibly be the next step afterwards with what i already have. thanks for any input.

There are a few good things that come with installing aftermarket headers. More power, less weight, and better fuel economy. As far as what type of headers I can give you a little more insight on that shortys will give you more horsepower and long tubes will give you more torque it just depends what you are looking for if you decide to change your stock ones out I would not go any larger than 1 5/8 inch at the risk of robbing power 1 5/8 should give you your maximum power output hope this helps

Being that your a 4th gen the only option really right now for longtubes are 1200$ + for parts with ARH or DynoMaxx.

Im running ARH and I LOVE them but I also didnt have to pay retail for them.

Do you live in an area where there are emissions checks for registraition and such?
