I'm new to rams just got my dads old 99ram1500 handed down to me, on the shifter I have an O/D button on the end..can someone please explain when/why I should and shouldn't have the overdrive off or on.

For the most part- ignore overdrive except….
When cruising along at freeway speed- press overdrive and the revs will lower saving fuel.

I turn my overdrive off only when towing heavy loads...the rest of the time it stays on.
