So my 2011 ram seems to have a slight issue when driving around 100-120km per hour where there is a slight higher pitched growling that can be felt in the floor. The dealer has done 3 different flashes to the transmission and still has not fixed it. They are insisting on changing the torque converter, but after asking them if they had this issue before they have said no. Should I go along with it or are there any other signs to look for before. The truck is only 5 months old and has 8500km or 5281 miles. Are any of the following things something I should be looking at or would they be irrelevant. Thanks for the help.
Some things to do:
- Check transmission fluid= (smell – no burnt smell, level, normal color)
- Check drive shaft for the counterweights =(are there any???)
- Check wheels for counterweight missing =( all are on)
- Any vibration in the steering wheel? =( no vibration)
- Transmission temp okay =(temps is normal)
- Drive in back and listen for growl ( sounds like coming from under rear back seats)
I can live with the sound if for some reason a new torque converter is going to cause me grief but it does get annoying on my 4 hour drive to camp. Also it seems that if you hit the gas a little bit harder when you hear the sound it goes away but when u ease off again it returns.
Thanks,
Brandon
