I stopped by a a nearby Dodge dealership to pick up a gas cap for my mothers minivan and was immediately greeted by the stereotypical sales man asking me if I was there to trade in my Ram 2500 for a new one. He immediately seemed repulsed by the sight of the Hemi badge on the side of my truck and said "Oh, this is only a Hemi" and did not seem very interested in my truck anymore.

It used to be "Does that thing have a HEMI!" now its just "Oh, that thing has a hemi"

I am happy with my truck and should not have been offended but I was a little.

Salespeople are idiots. He thought he saw a Cummins where he would be able to get you to trade it in for a stupid price so they could sell it at a really stupid mark up. Cummins hold their value and that is about all salespeople know about the trucks. They don't know that a 2500 Hemi is still a monster and is perfectly capable of matching the Cummins in different types of work. You live in Wisconsin, I am most people wont want to sit for 15 minutes in your brutal winter waiting for the diesel to warm up.

Don't let them get to you. 85% of salespeople know nothing about the vehicles they sell. When I got picked up at the airport by the saleperson to pick up my work Cummins, he knew nothing about the truck. 5 minutes after getting the keys I figured out everything that he had no clue about (and flipped up the tow mirrors for the 6 hour drive home).

Enjoy your beast, your truck is a monster and it has everything you need. :D

You missed your chance to play his game lol. Debadge your rig and stop in again. He won't remember you because sales people are stupid. When he gives you a glorified deal for your Cummins Hemi, just take it and run. Get yourself an even newer Ram. LOL

Yes they are. Its gets real fun if you happen to be a woman who knows a thing or two about cars. Go into the dealership and sales guys (Never actually seen a sales woman), Always seem to automatically assume you know absolutely nothing and your just after something pretty that matches your purse. :) Sometimes I have fun and play along and other times I let little knowledge slip.

About 5 minutes after meeting any vehicle sales person, you find out that they don't believe in the brand that they are selling, most sales persons at my local dealership drive Fords & wouldn't own even a used Dodge or Ram truck
Which you know that they could buy for peanuts with their discounts

Oh, so this guy would have gotten along well with the salesman that was positive that Hemi's don't have MDS systems, right?

Then he dared to say that he thought I should get rid of my 'old junker' Ram? Saying that his little 4 cylinder was more powerful than my third gen 4.7L that couldn't ever 'dream' of squealing it's tires? (needless to say I squealed the tires when I exited the dealership)

okay, okay sorry. OP's irritation riled me up and I got a little excited.

EDIT: On another note, I can't bash my local dealer. Have a good relationship with the guys there in all departments (minus one salesman), and the Chrysler, Dodge & Ram guy is pretty loyal to what he sells.

Actually after you get past the Initial pain of NEW, These Hemi Cars and trucks actually have pretty good resell. I got $800 more than I initially paid for the Magnum Hemi that I purchased used. I recently did a trade in evauation on my 2012 Ram 1500 Hemi and they offered me $25K outright, That's not trade that's check for it, Which isn't bad considering it is paid off and I only paid $29K and some change for it brand new 20 miles on the odo.

So I don't understand why a salesman would be like that.

The problem with the hemi in a HD truck is that it really narrows down the potential buyers, most people looking will want the cummins. A dealer will most likely have to sit on the hemi truck much longer than they would a cummins. This might change some with the 6.4 hemi, but for most buyers the 5.7 just isnt what theyre looking for.

Doesn't the hemi 2500 have a higher payload than a CTD 2500?

The idiotic salespeople are everywhere. I recently went in for some warranty work and a sales guy I've never seen at that dealer asked me why I was wasting time with old incomplete recalls. Long story short, we got talking about the Charger R/T, I told him, that it was the only car I'd ever trade my truck in for, but it would have to be an AWD.

He laughed and said, that'd be tough since they don't make them in AWD. After a couple of yes, they do and no, they dont's..I showed him the car on the Dodge website.

He THEN told me that he was at a GM dealer last week and just started selling Dodge.
