Hey guys, so I installed some AMP Powersteps over the weekend and they are great. however, I must have a loose connection or ground, or a blown fuse somewhere. hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction if thats the case. otherwise it's off to the dealership I go.
After finishing the install and driving i have found that I lost my headlight controls (the headlights are always on when the truck is running and turn off when the truck is off and i have no fogs or cargo but high beams work) i lost the map lights, puddle lights, hazards, glove box, and all of my controls at the bottom of the console for my traction, heated/cooled seats, etc but trailer brake word fine. my door locks seem to be iffy to from the doors but work fine from outside and remote. :4-dontknow:
I have a RWD 1500 sport CC

Hopefully someone here has a single answer for me.

Thanks

Start by retracing your steps of everything you did for the powerstep install. Mainly the wiring. I know the install is different on the 2014's than the 2012's; you hook them up under the dash correct? I'd double and triple check to make sure you have them hooked up to all the correct wires. Check to make sure you didn't accidentally pull a different wire out of place up in there or loosen any ground wires. Then go through and check all the fuses under the hood to make sure they're still good. If that all looks good I would try unhooking the battery for 10-15 minutes and then hook it back up again. That will reset the computer which might solve your problem.

This may have been what happened to another member a few months back - the Body Control Module - the BCM computer was fried when the running boards were installed - never figured out how or why - the shop that did the install for that guy came good for replacing the BCM, then declined to try again on a second set of steps. ;)

What Soprtsguy said...think that turned out to be one of the pins got bent on one of the three big plugs you pulled to tap wires into. Know that they are a pain but that's probably where the reason lies or more easily the one main ground you pulled to get to those plugs.

Well I really hope it's just a connection issue. Strange that the door triggers on all the doors (and therefore the steps still work though). And I know the ground is hooked back up. The blower motor is tied into that and it's still blowing strong. I guess I'll be pulling the footwell apart again and taking a close look at everything.

Yep....

Thee steps don't play nice with the Ram computer. Just hope your dealer will warranty the BCM since you did the install.

I don't think the steps messed up the truck. Probably a bent contact, chaffed wire or bad ground. Too many have been installed without any issues for the steps to be the problem. That being said I am waiting for the plug n play version due out in a month or so according to AMP Reseach.

Previous poster is correct. the connector plugs can have the lock arms "in the lock position without being 100% engaged.

Double check under the dash
