I have a 1996 5.9 RWD. Recently the speedometer is off. It reads 20 mph when I am going closer to 50 mph. I checked the OBD2 and the computer is giving me an accurate speed. I have even switched out the gauge cluster trying to fix it. Does anyone have any thoughts about why its reading wrong?

The wires could be bad. The computer gets the speed off the sender from the differential. If the OBD2 sensor is reading it correctly, the wires from your gauge or coming from the computer could be bad / corroded. If you replaced the gauge, likely not the gauge.

The sensor on the differential is for the ABS system on a 96. The (vss) speed sensor is on the tail shaft of the trans or on the transfer case depending on you truck.
