Anyone try and fit a sport bike in the short CC bed (gate closed)? I've got a GSXF 650 which is about 84 inches long and I'm trying to decide between buying a ramp to load it or a hitch mount to carry it.

same results as Jixxer with a CBR; you would have to load it odd angled if you wanted the tailgate closed ( <- that's a bad idea, fwiw).

I soft tied from the eyelets on the tow hitch up the tailgate and onto the passenger peg brackets, and the tailgate did not get scratched and did not bounce on the several hour trip. (The backup camera view was a bit disconcerting, though!)
I'd really rather have it in the bed and compressed than on a hitch carrier, but that is just my choice.
Happy Hauling!

Do you have the CC with the 6.4' bed or the 5.7' bed?

I have had my GSXR 600 in the bed of my 03 Ram QC 5'7" bed. It fits but you can't raise the tailgate. I would imagine your bike would stick out on the tailgate a little also.
Yeah, bikes are roughly the same length yours is just much lighter (and faster). The F is the old Katana. CRAP! I cant believe I bought this truck and didn't measure. It looked so huge on the lot it never occurred to me my bike wouldn't fit.

Thanks.

I didn't have a bike in mine but a riding lawnmower and the tailgate wouldn't close. I used the bed extender.

I have the 5'7" bed.

I can't speak for the bikes, but I can assure you that the bike will not fit with the tailgate up in the Crew Cab short bed (which is 67" long)

With the tailgate down and a bed extender gate on (I have the extender gate that came with the Ramboxes) you have 84" from the edge of the bed by the cab to the inside of the extender gate folded down on the (open) tailgate. I measured mine yesterday to transport some stuff from Ikea.

Without the extender, you would have effectively 90" or so, since the contact patch of the rear tire sits a few inches forward of the absolute back of the bike. The rear of the tire would be hanging out off the end of the tailgate, but you could safely secure the bike in that position (at least in theory).

If your bike is 84", then it seems to me that you just need to find the right "bed extender" and the bike will fit like a glove.

Edit: Oh, for what it's worth, an 84" bike won't fit in the "long bed" either with the tailgate up (78 inches).

Yeah, just realized that using the configuration tool over at Ram. Actually makes me feel better because there is no way I would have ordered an extended bed truck living where I live. Not only would it be a parking nightmare I also wouldn't be able to get past it in my driveway.

Not sure why this Amp one is only for small trucks but maybe the Dakota one matches up to the Ram bed. Amp Research Moto bed extender

Don't really need an extender, the straps will keep the bike in the bed. The only real reason I needed the gate closed is the ferry I take to get to our summer place charges you extra for anything sticking out beyond the bumper. That and keeping whatever else is in the bed with the bike in there. Nothing that cant be accomplished with good tie downs and bungee cords. Would rather close it but it looks like I would have needed a lot more truck to accomplish that so I'll make due.

Thanks for the tips.
