woke this morning and truck started as usual, sit at job 8 hours , when i got in and turned key radio and lights came on but not enough power to engage starter....got jumped off drove to auto zone , they hooked up tester and said battery is good and alt is charging but starter is bad......I thought that was weird....got in started right up and drove home (20 miles).....parked turned off and started again....after two hours went out to try it and now its doing the same thing again...all lights and radio...wont engage starter...jumps off and starts fine....

can a bad starter cause the battery to drain while just sitting?

Unlikely the starter would drain the battery unless there was a bad starter relay or a short somewhere. Is it the original battery? Might want to use an amp meter to check for a parasitic draw. If it is the original battery you might want to change the battery no matter what Auto Zone said, they don't last for ever and it is 5 years old.

OR... Take a good look at you battery terminals. They may need to be cleaned? Dirty terminals can give the same indication.
