the stock stereo will only turn up a little bit. everything still functions fine but it is just quiet. all speakers work and are at the same volume. I pulled the unit out and didn't see any wire issues but also did not know what I was looking for, anyone else have a similar problem?

I haven't experienced that problem, but more than likely it's 1 of two things. 1) it could be your attenuator (volume) or B) your amp is toast.

I just hate the way aftermarket units look. I don't want to feel like im stepping into a nightclub or riding in a 16 year old Asian kids civic when I get in my truck.

Ricer truck? That just doesn't seem right. Check around at some auto recyclers and see if any of them have an OEM head unit.
