I have a 02 quad 4x4 tow/sport with 3.90 gears. I bought this truck just 2 months ago and my in town mileage sucks. Part of the reason is if I was to cruise say 35 my rpms have to be about 2200 just to maintain my speed.

Just I've been wondering is my stall stock or aftermarket.

If I powerbreak it I can get a solid 2500 rpm and on the road from a dead stop I get about 2300.

So do I have a aftermarket 2500 rpm stall or is factory just that high?

Everywhere I look I read high stall. Can anyone give me actual numbers of what stock should be?

normally the stock stall is 1600-1800. turn ur o/d off and u should feel all 3 shifts then see where ur tc locks up should feel like a 4th gear if it dont engage at all u have a unlocked tc. or its messed up. pay attention to ur rpms and dont give heavy throttle or u you will think its high stall.. also your gas millage is gonna suck regardless due to you have the 3.92 gears. the gas millage gear is 3.55

That's definitely a lot higher than factory. Typically, even the so-called hi-stall factory is only around 2000. Even with 3.90's, you should be rolling more like 50+ mph. Are you sure you're getting overdrive? Depending on your tire size, that could be second gear. Aftermarket, wheels & tires? Speedo accuracy?

yeah I get overdrive and all but do to the stall not ever pulling the truck it requires the engine to rev that high. Once I hit about 44 mph it does finally shift into overdrive and lock up...and brings the rpms down to about 1300 and that's fine with me...but when you are going threw town with 30 or 35 mph speed limits I can't afford a ticket just to keep my rpms down lol. I ordered a new torque converter and the guy even changed out the stator....so I'll have a very low stall torque converter now....just came in the mail. But yeah before I change it I'll take a video on my phone and post it to youtube so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

As far as gas mileage I'd love to have the 3.55 gears. Anyone that wants to swap I'll be more then happy. I typically cruise down the highway at like 50 mph cause that keeps my rpms at 1500 and my best gas mileage at 1500. I can get...well here with the consent up hill or down hill grade...15 mpg on the highway. Combine my highway n city. Just going threw a small town that's say 20 blocks and has one stop in it. My gauge usually will show a drop of about .3 to .5 in mileage for that little bit and if I got threw a town with stop lights. I've seen my mileage drop 2 or 3 mpg just driving threw town going to the movies or the mall and what not. But I normally get it about and average about 13.7 across the whole tank.

But like I said that's at 50 miles an hour and coasting when I can and always taking off slow.

Well as long as the gears in your truck match mine as a replacement in my 2002 I'd swap ya. Of course that is as long as your gears aren't wore and are in good shape.

We'd pick a weekend and we'd pull them and then Mail them out priorty mail to each other on that following monday.
