Well I have wanted one for quite sometime now, my gf said no truck stuff for x mas but she got me this rampage lightbar! originally she had ordered a recon but they are back ordered until who knows when and the rampage had a better warranty anyways.

So today i put the truck in the garage and took the tail gate off to see how it is going to go on and prep for putting it on tmrw (supposed to be above freezing and would make it easier to heat the area up) well it completely covers my hole for the spare tire, which I will NOT do, and to move it up just enough to get the tool into to lower the tire, that would mean that the bottom lip of the tail gate completely mangles.

I considered taking a pencil grinder and noching the hole bigger, still wont work because the angle that the tube to lower the tire is at would push the tool that you use to turn it up into the light bar. Not that the spare tire gets lowered much but there will be that time i need it and have to rip my light bar off to get it, also this light bar does not screw in otherwise I would just carry a screw driver everywhere...

Sorry for the long rant bbut I wanted this fawkin thing on the truck, anyone else with a 3rd gen or similar situation on a 4th gen make it work?

I had mine on the top side of the hole, still visible and bright but not directly in the line of site. I didn't want to cover up the hole but like stang said u could trim it and apply clear silicone to seal it back up!

I trimmed the higher lip of the hole and it was a tight squeeze but it fit
I was nervous about it being to low and not being able to see it
mine has a lip so the bar cant go below the height of the bumper but if I go any, I also cant put it any higher ( not even in line with the top of the hole for the spare tire) or the lip on the tail gate will hit it... snapped a few quick pics.. excuse all the Ontario road salt.

this shows that lip I was talking about it runs level all the way across the back except where it goes around the hole for the tire..

This just shows the clearance I have to put the light bar in there (or lack there of). There isnt much room to play with...

My gf bought it in town so I will probably just return it tmrw and buy somehting off of ebay... maybe a light bar for the front of the truck to mount offroad lights on...

I'm running into a similar problem on my 4th gen, the hole is in the way can go on top of it but it doesn't wanna fit flat, I'm thinking I'm going to take it to a body shop seems overkill but i am fed up with it I'm on my third attempt had to replace tape each time. love the looks of them but don't see how people are applying them, unless their screwing them in? with i don't want to drill holes in my truck so ya i dunno

I havent seen a 4th gen rear end to help, I know bordin had some good pics when he did his. to put it on you could always silicone all the way around the perimeter, it wont move after that and will help keep alot of the shit out. MY issue is just not enough room under there and the tail gate will destroy it the first time I open it...

Bummer. I remember having no issues w/ my Plasmaglow and was able to access the spare hole just fine by slightly bending the bar enough for the rod to access. No clearance issues either with tailgate down.
Think the bar was layered with Velco or tape i cant recall. Maybe easier due to the roll pan.

Anyway just hopefully you dont get upset enough to install it like this this owner. Taken from another thread.

What I did on my 3rd gen install was used a little file to trim the edge of the light bar to go around the hole for the spare tire jack thing-a-ma-jig. If you've got a Dremil tool it'd be a lot easier.

Sorry I don't have pics, otherwise I'd post up what I'm talking about.

On my 4th gen I didn't run in to any issues with clearance on the hole. The only issue that I'm having is the cheap ass tape is letting go. I'll most likely put screws in, as I have no intention of removing the bar

good luck

I was able to get the light bar on my 3rd gen and still have room to get the spare tire down without modification. I think the light bar is the same as the Rampage, it was a Ebay bar. The tailgate just skims by the light bar, and the bar only partially covers the spare tire hole. I think the only time I would run into issues if there was mud or ice build up on either the bar or the tailgate. Sorry I wasn’t able to get the picture to post.

thanks for the reply, I ened up returning it and rodering something different, the bar that the store sold my gf had no places to screw it in and told her that none of them are screwed in anymore even though on the packaging for the rampage bar it should one that was screwed in LOL I dont deal with this store anymore.... maybe down the road I will tackle it again, I didnt want to stick it as the winters would murder the tape and I would like to remove it if need be
