From what I can see of the interior so far I'm not sure if I like it. Uconnect screen looks bigger, apparently bench seat trucks will have the rotary shifter while trucks with the centre console will get the T-handle shifter.

From what you can see through the camo the grille looks like an evolution of the current Laramie limited grille and not a crosshair grille. I'm wondering if thats why they changed the grille on the 2018 sports to the dual port grille instead of continuing with the crosshairs, trying to get more people to adjust to it.

I initially thought the same thing about the screen. But come to find out, its the same 8.4 size (with highly upgraded functionality) but this one does not have the bezel around it like the 4th gen has. So you see all of the available screen so it appears larger, its not slightly covered up like it is now. Im good with that.

I like the layout of the new interior. Nice evolution of an already outstanding design.

Yeah I ended up seeing that it is still the 8.4 which I'm good with. There's a good thread on allpar with done juicy hints and insider info about the 5th gens. I believe we are at the point now where things are going to start leaking out.

Yeah I think I read that Ram is planning to start leaking info about the 5th gen soon.

It looks sort of like there may be a vertical pillar behind the horizontal one and the horizontal one looks like it may say RAM instead of the Ram head logo we have all grown accustomed to. You can't really tell behind the camouflage though so that's just speculation.

Likewise, I don't see how someone can say whether or not they like it based on these pics. YMMV. I still think based on the leaked pics from the dealer meeting that it will have the big rig look, but like I said that's worth what you paid for it.

They may also keep the 2016+ thing going where the more opulent trims get different grilles. I CAN tell from that picture that that truck does not have the pig snout grille (or I guess we are calling it the "dual port" now??).

Going back to the t-handle shifter seems regressive and will make it more difficult/expensive to swap back and forth from bench to consoles. I prefer benches though and my console truck has the dial though so it won't affect me. It should satiate the guys who complain about the dial, who are probably the ones who prefer losing the front middle seat anyway. It shouldn't cost too much for FCA since the new Durango and Grand Cherokee are getting t-handles like the Charger already has so it will all probably be the same part.

The current powertrains are already ahead of or on par with everyone else's that just developed them, so I think they'll work those like the 3rd gens, where the 4.7 and 5.9 were available for the first 2 years before the Hemi came out in 2003 for the HDs. The Pentastar will probably be the base engine for the foreseeable future, with the rumored TT inline six (which I might actually be OK with since its inline), coming sometime in the early to mid 20's. I do expect they will get the 2nd gen 8HP transmissions too (read: http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=233970), but again that is speculative.

It is also rumored that the 12.1" Uconnect touch screen available in the Police Chargers may make its way into the consumer Mopars.

With the current generation Ram being 8 (and almost 9) years old, they are about to pass Chevy (whose K2XX Silverado is only 4 y/o) in YTD sales for the first time ever-based on the last few months-with an older gen truck! If they can maintain that trend they will pass Chevy probably this month, and if they can sustain it through the end of the year then Chevy will have fallen from #1 to #3 in under 50 years, and Ram will be the new #2.

The 4th gen will be 10 years old when it is replaced, making it one of the longest running Ram generations-second only to the 12 year run of the gen 1s (which were really launched in 1972 so they were 21 when the 2nd gens came out). Needless to say the stakes are pretty high on this one. If they do it successfully, Ram will be the new #2 truck; if they goon it up then this will only be a high watermark.

That really goes for FCA as a whole, the 2020 Mopars will be the first ones to use FCA rather than Daimler platforms on a large scale. I think the FCA merger has been much better for Chrysler than the prior Daimler screw-job merger; both in terms of how the company is doing, and looking at the actual vehicles. If they can continue their current successes I think people will finally STFU about FCA being a dead man walking.

I think this new RAM will build on the 4th gens run. Lord knows they've had enough time to throw everything they've got at it. However, RAM (FCA) have to realize that they just cant sit on a generation like they did with the 4th gen. 4th gen was lightning in a bottle, we dont know if 5th gen will catch that same lightning, so they may need to update, refresh and redesign a little more often in the coming years to hold 2nd spot...if they get there.

Man, I swore I'd seen my last 4th gen RAM in my driveway...and I wont buy another 4th gen for me, but it says so much about the awesomeness of this generation truck that I STILL find myself lusting after them...I saw a Sublime Green Sport the other day that I just HAD to turn around and go look at it. LOL! The Night Packages are also stunners.

To that point, RAM has built another winning formula by offering up many different appearance packages to help keep the brand from getting stale. Thats something that I think they should continue doing.

I get the impression that FCA does not want to be a "me too" automaker but trucks are where the action is. So they've go to keep up with the Jones's while continuing to pursue their chosen identity. I wouldnt be surprise to see them to muscle up the RAM line with some high performance variants...Rebel TRX being #1 on the list. It would bring a lot of attention to the brand.
I could be off base but thats just the impression Im getting.

Alright, we are learning more about what features the DT will contain. It will have collision warning/adaptive cruise, all those things to keep it competitive with the new F150.
-Park sense will add a stop assist component.
-Parallel and perpendicular park assist. I expect the higher models to have an auto trailer backup feature like Ford has
-LED fog lights
-LED tail lights (which they've had since 2013 anyway, maybe they'll be standard?)
-Adjustable LED headlights (F150s have these on the top trims)

-Perhaps the biggest news of all is that there will be a mild hybrid system for some Hemi equipped trucks running on an industry first 48 volt electrical system. Our work trucks run off of 24V systems; I am not sure how I feel about it. Experience wise I haven't had any more trouble with them than 12V systems, but my mind tells me it would lead to electrical issues. On the 24V they use 2 batteries, I am not sure if FCA will run 4 or if they'll run some other type of special ($$$$$) battery. IME it is best to get a glass mat (AGM) battery for this type of application, so I doubt they'll come with lead acids.

Also, please ignore the rendering. It is clearly just another attempt to reconcile the leaked dealer photos (lights) with the recent camo spy shots (raised fenders) by sticking it on a 4th gen body in photoshop and giving it what appears to be a slightly modified Durango bumper.

I would actually prefer if they left the fog lights incandescent; I like to put yellow bulbs in my fog housings because they allow you to actually see in the fog. Most LEDs are bluish and the light scatters quickly-exacerbating glare rather than reducing it like fog lights should do.

I JUST finished reading that and was about to post it here.

Apparently they are going to release some more info next week.

When I hopped on to post it then I figured someone may have beat me to it

But yeah they seem to have reached the trickle phase of the reveal. Like how back in 2008 they started talking about how the 4th gen would have a slanted forward grille and the Hemi would get updated for power. Then in January they will have the full reveal with preproduction models for us to ogle so that we have enough time to decide what we want and the dealers can get acquainted with the new features before the ordering banks open.

Car manufacturers started investigating 48 volt systems more than a decade ago. I'm surprised that none have done it yet. Increased efficiency of electronics and led bulbs seems to have delayed the implementation. But, I expect that it will happen. The use of four 12 volt batteries would be the cheapest way to go for both manufacturing and maintenance, however packaging consideration might require a large and heavy 48 volt battery.

LED bulbs are available in all sorts of colors. However, for best results, the lens must be the same color. I expect the aftermarket suppliers will have kits to convert to yellow fogs.

Lol maybe they'll put 2 in the engine bay and 2 under the seats. My Durango's battery is under the passenger seat and there is a similar empty compartment under the driver's seat where the air assist suspension module goes if you have it.

It would make hunting down a dead cell way more of a PiTA though. I wonder if the non hybrids will get a 24V system.

TBH I just want the yellow light, I am not a huge fan of Lamin-X film; it crinkles around the edges of domed fog lenses and looks ricer-y. I feel like most people will be using Lamin-X because replacing the LED assembly would be more of a PITA, but maybe not

Oh great.......48 volts now.....guess cars electrical systems are slowly becoming more and more deadly to work on.
Its not the voltage, its the amperage...
