So, the non-XD Titan was apparently revealed at the 2016 NYAS per the below article:

http://w ww.truck trend.com/news/1603-2017-nissan-titan-officially-debuts-in-new-york/

I don't really see anything too interesting, despite the fact that Truck Trend (I know, I know) seems to have taken particular interest in the suspension judging by the number of photos they took of it. On that note, looks to be available with full length center skid plates and stamped upper and lower control arms.

The article isn't really very detailed, but I'm not too impressed with only 390 horses and 401 lb-ft for a 5.6L direct injected V8. There is no mention of a different tune for the XD so I assume it will be the same for both, if it is not detuned for the XD. Toyota has been making 401 lb-ft with their 5.7 since 2011, though the IForce only makes 381 horses. I feel like it is enough to compete with the current crop of trucks, but with Ram going into its 5th generation a year later, Ford having just been revised, and Chevy with an (presumably aluminum) redesign due soon, it will be interesting to see if they are still competitive or get left in the dust again. Not that you really need more than 390/401, but when the Hemi and others have been making that for up to 8 years and are more efficient (presumably, since there is no mention of any fuel saving technology), then it doesn't help their case against being the "also ran" of trucks. Sure, GM's Ecot3c is less powerful than the competition's V8s, but its efficiency helps to make up for it, and the 6.2 is available. The (IIRC Aisin sourced) 7 speed will help and be an improvement, but again when the competition already has 8 speeds and Ford/GM supposedly having a 9/10 on the way, it looks like they are catching up rather than surpassing the competition.

The interior looks ok-sort of a blend of Toyota and Ford, like the exterior. IMHO the front still looks disproportionately bulbous and like a work van. The tiny engine bay that makes working on the current Titans a PITA is back. Hopefully they redesigned their axles.

What are y'all's thoughts and opinions?

I sat in, and checked out all of the features I could (except drive) for all of the major trucks at a recent auto show here in raleigh.

Leaving the show, I was very confident with my decision to stick with Ram...

There was no major feature in the Titan XD that I viewed as superior to the ram.

People need to stop comparing the Titan XD to 1/2 tons. According to every objective criteria it is a 3/4 ton. Just because Nissan says it's a 1/2 ton does not make it so

The Nissan has styling cues borrowed from WalMart & JC Whitney.
What lies beneath just can't make up for the exterior imho.
I don't see the underpinnings as anything special. I am curious as to what they are using for ales though, since the gen 1 Titan had so many problems with them

I saw a new Titan on the highway the other day. That's one seriously ugly rig. It's terrible....it's so ugly I literally LOL'd at the abomination. Then I was stunned as to why that dude would plop down his money for it...

I'd take a Titan warrior concept with a Cummins.

The Warrior concept is cool but I just couldn't own one. I test drove a 2006 (I believe?) Titan before I bought my 2006 Ram back in 2011 and was not pleased at all with the quality of the truck. Everything felt cheap and broke down. Granted it was a used truck but it only had like 50k miles and everything seemed far older and worn than it should have been. I looked at a few other Titans and they just didn't feel to be on the same playing field as the other manufacturers. I am at least glad that they finally updated the truck, even if it is hideous! I say scrap the Titan and give the Cummins to Ram! :smiley_thumbs_up:

I think the 5.0 Cummins would be a good tweener option for the 2500s. Better mileage for those who don't need 6.7 power. Could you imagine Ram with 2 Cummins options?

Would the 5.0 really give that much better mpg than the 6.7? Looking at the XD forum on highway runs people are struggling to get over 20. I have driven a '13 6.7 up and down CA and it was easy to get low 20s when I was cruising Interstate 5.

This graph shows the mpg to mph chart, granted it is the 3.92 gearing but I have yet to see another chart with a taller drive ratio on the XD.

This chart shows its comparison with dodge, er, Ram with 3.73
