i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 3.9L V6 and i cut my muffler off and added a thrush Glasspack for now until i can get some Flowmaster 40 series True Dual..... But until i can i was wondering if cutting the Catylitic Converter off would cause any Ill effects to the engine.... Ive heard running a vehicle straight Headers is bad for it..... But i have all Stock Exaust Manifolds and pipes so would cutting my cat off and adding a Glasspack in place of it cause any issues?

The computer will revolt on you. The cat is important to eng management and maintaining some back pressure and correct o2 readings. You can go with a higher flow cat made for truck that has correct location for o2 sensors to maintain correct readings and back pressure.

Thats what I thought but the shop my buddy took his truck to
(Charlotte Harbor Exaust) he got a Flowmaster system and his truck doesnt have any Cats at all..... is that because he has Mufflers?

It depends on the truck. If its older and dsnt have computer (carberated) you can get away without cat my 82 has no emissions at all. Also we don't have emissions in that county. It just sucks if carb is dirty or out of ajustment. That thing can get you higher then a kite and bring you to tears.

So on yours just for long jevity replace cat and keep it. Now if you have miles on it its a good thing to replace they will clog if you do short trips a lot. I had an 89 dakota with 3.9 replaced whole thing inc cat wow what a differince. Just find a high flow cat runns better and won't clog as ez. Also keeps mpg's up.

Thanks for the feedback.... Im just gonna keep saving and ill just take my truck to an Exaust shop and get a whole System instead of Rigging stuff up

The thing im not getting tho is my Friend has a 1990 Chevy Scottsdale and it has Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) and it doesnt have any Catalytic Converters on it, hes just running Flowmaster Original 40 from straight pipes off his Stock Exhaust Manifolds..... Why couldnt i do that with mine.... I know his has a Computer in it cause we had to get it Adjusted because his Idle was set too low and causing it to stall when he idled for a few minutes.... If anyone can Clear this up for me that would be Great and worth Some Rep Points!!!! Im just Really confused about this....:4-dontknow:

Pre 1996 vehicles don't have the OBDII system which may be why your friend can run no cats. If you try to run no cats with a newer vehicle it will be a pita. Anything is possible but it's really not worth it. Plus a vehicle without cats pollutes about 50X as much as a vehicle with cats. It also smells bad and it messes with your computer. Basically trying to eliminate your cat is stupid and you really shouldn't do it unless it is a race car or something that you don't drive very often.
