I had this on some other forums... figured I would share here in case some guys are only here...


well, first sledding trip of the season took my truck out. The last thing anybody would ever expect from a basically new truck with under 18k miles.

As of right now, the ONLY thing I am going to say about this, besides what happened, is that I had it in to the DEALER the week before and they replaced the torque converter. Obviously something was not put back together properly or something failed. As of now, I am not saying the dealer. So far I have only contacted my insurance company and a friend of a friend at chrysler tech center took my info, not sure if anything will come of that though.

This left us stranded in Higgins lake on snowmobile trip, fortunately only 4 miles from the cabin with no trailer attached. We towed up to Lake arrow head MI on friday, rode saturday and sunday, 2 guys left and we went to higgins lake MI for the monday riding. Sunday night is when this happened.

I noticed the tach @ 3k RPM, we got to the top of the incline we were on and it wasn't up shifting... let off the throttle and got back in and it still went to 3k RPM. Thought great trans is smoked... so we pulled over and the cab has smoke in it and something smelled like it was burning... got out, looked under and saw a small orange glow. We grabbed what we could and got out. By the time the FD showed up, the thing was a huge fire ball.

4 Guys in the truck, everybody was OK. Had to call a buddy to pick us and the trailer up the next day. Its about a 3.5hr drive from home.

Holy friggin crap! That is very painful to look at, very very sorry to see and hear about this but so glad to hear no one was hurt! I will definitely be following this thread as I am very curious as to wth happened, please keep us posted!

well so far it seems like I am getting the short end of the stick here... ending up with a couple thousand after the truck is paid off from my insurance company. So far I haven't heard from Chrysler to see if they are going to do anything about this. My guess is probably not.

Latest update is I have started with my insurance company and they are already trying to push through and finalize the payoff. RAM has not really contacted me at all in the matter. I spoke with somebody today there and they are really not willing to do anything for this matter at all. Which is really sad because I loved my RAM.

I have posted some pictures and such on the RAM facebook page to try and light a fire (no pun)... but it probably wont end up anywhere.

So, the sad thing here is that since Chrysler is not willing to make anything right and I am forced to settle for the crappy amount from my insurance company. Chrysler has lost a customer for life. Brand new vehicles don't just catch on fire. There was obviously an issue with the dealers (Sterling Heights Dodge, in Sterling Heights Mi) work or a faulty component from Dodge.

I wish I was on here instead telling about how RAM stepped up and took care of the issue instantly.

I still have the title to the truck unsigned and will have it for the next couple days in case RAM changes their minds in making this right. However, I feel it won't go that way.
