How are you guys handling the hitch weight? Most of the 5er's I've looked at have pin weight in excess of the payload with any kind of weight in truck. They tell me that the pin weight is 20 to 24% of the trailer weight.

Best to move up to a RAM 3500 SRW for towing a fiver around. You are right about the pin weight, most fivers run around 2,000 to 2,500 pounds of pin weight, too much for a 2500.

I just bought a Heartland Elkridge E279. 31.5' long and gross weight of about 9.5K loaded. Will pick it up this weekend. The pin weight is advertised at 1725#. Installed the Curt Q16 with mount to fit Ram prep. Love the installation. I'm going to install rear enhancement system by Timbren. Upgraded my hitch pin on 5er with a 5th Airborn set up. Supposed to really help make a smooth towing experience. Being new at this (1st 5th W), I'll see how it goes. I feel comfortable with this rig and my 2014 Ram2500CTD 4X4. Might be hard to get a level pull with the truck height.
