I recently purchased a travel trailer that has an empty weight of 9600 lbs., mostly to use as a guest house. I have a 1998 Ram 1500 5.9L and the owners manual says that the max towing is 7700 lbs. I certainly won't be towing it on the road (insufficient brakes is one big issue) but will I kill my engine and/or suspension if I were to move the trailer from the barn to the pad in the spring and back to the barn in the fall?

Thanks for any advise.

Check your leaf spring shackles in the rear to make sure they're in good shape and not rusting out. Too much tongue weight and rotted shackles can send your leaf springs up through your bed floor. I've seen it happen all too often up here where road salt disintegrates vehicles in a matter of years...

Welcome to the Ram Forum " Z " Family Russican :wavey:

Have you dropped it on the hitch yet ? @ 9600lbs there
must be some tongue weight and this would be my first
concern especially with a 1500 ;)

When you get settled in swing by the Newbie section !
