Since I don't tow anything, I thought I'd be smart and remove my hitch this past weekend. Little did I know it's incorporated into the bumper and two bolts actually hold the bumper in place. I'd like to remove the hitch, but either keep the bumper or replace it with a rollpan.

Has anyone succesfully removed the hitch and been able to keep the stock bumper?

Thanks,
Mike

Bumper has to come off first then trailer hitch per what AllData is saying, u should be able to put the bumper back on without the trailer hitch as not all rams come with it. Hopefully you get it figured out, here's a pic, hope it helps!

I've already taken the bumper off and there is no support for the center of the bumper without the hitch installed. The brackets that hold bumper on the sides do not touch anything either. I could fab brackets but I thought it would be something more simple.

The trailer hitch is only a small piece, that attaches to the cross member I believe you are talking about. The "removable" part is less than 1' x 1' x 1'. Here's what it looks like:

There's just the two bolts in the back (you can see the holes in the pic) and IIRC one more bolt underneath...

That picture is helful, but it doesnt look like the one on my truck. It attaches in the same locations, but is shaped differently. The one on my truck is all welded one piece with no parts removeable and attaches directly to the bumper in the rear like your picture shows with two screws. Also, I have 6 total bolts securing the hitch and bumper per side. Four bolts on each side attach the hitch to the frame and 2 bolts each side connects the hitch to the outside ends of the bumper. I don't understand it.

I'd really like to see how the bumper attaches to atruck with no hitch. Maybe it would help me understand this better. :4-dontknow:

Mine isn't removeable and is welded together. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

hmmm that's weird, the must have changed the design somewhere along the way...it may be "non removable" or at least not reasonably removable.

I'm starting to think you are correct about being not reasonably removeable...LOL

This post shows exactly what my hitch looks like. It clearly shows how I'm pretty much not able to remove the hitch because it's integrated into the bumper and supports it. Hmm, maybe I can fab some brackets to support the bumper and be able to resupport it. the tough part is the middle where the license plate goes and coincidently where you would place your foot if you were going to step up.

Looks like you're stuck with it, it just doesn't seem worth it to remove it. And then what if you ever need to tow something?
